  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    The simple good news.

I have heard talking like this before. However, people that talk like that tend to be hateful of anyone and anything not in perfect alignment with whatever they have "discerned" as ultimate truth. I kind of just roll my eyes and keep walking lol.

    The simple good news.

That's not quite what I meant though. We could go down the road of discussing how everything has something to do with everything. In my experience, when people talk about discussing theology they are opening their view to argue, debate, discuss, or whatever else anyone wants to call it. Since...

    The simple good news.

I hope I didn't imply otherwise. I did not mean to if I did.

    The simple good news.

Hmm, there are a couple of things this made me think about. -Thanks for the message. -RaymondG, I understood what you were getting at... after your second or third reply. The first one came off as snide and kind of "yay, one of these people again" lol. Hence, the responses you received. -I...

    Campus "cry closets"

You know, going into WW2 men left their families for all those horrors. Women got into new roles not traditional for them. Families had to adapt to the changes. Men came back broken and damaged, and they were told to just deal with it. The women had to give up the things they had been taking...

    Campus "cry closets"

Maybe we are pampering too much. At the same time, what does it say about us if when we hear about cry closets our first reaction is to insult and ridicule instead of question why things have gotten this bad? There are a lot of things contributing to these issues. Unfortunately, I don't think it...

Should A Minister Charge For His Ministry?

What I am going to say about this is something I am not sure is Scripturally backed. I believe it is in spirit, but I cannot think of any specific verses to back it up :) Birth, difficult medical situations, troubling finances, and death are some of the hardest things for people to go through...

    Should a Full-Time Pastor Work?

Hmmm... I think people over complicate this issue. It cost money to live, and as we all know it is not a small amount. It cost money to keep the bills paid for the church building. Even if the church meets in a field, somebody owns it and at least pays land taxes. I'll get stuff together and...

    Should Christians Watch TV?

I think the most important thing is self-awareness. We should all be in a relationship with God in such a way that we can discern how things are good or bad for us, and adjust accordingly. I also believe it is important to listen to other Christians' concerns and reflect on them. I'm actually a...

    Non denominational?

My experience with non-denominational and denominational Christians has been about the same. Certainly this doesn't speak for everyone or every church, just what I have seen locally. I basically comes down to this: "We changed the curtains in the dining hall, everyone!" and that is followed by...

Is God's "Free" Gift of Salvation Really Free?

I have Mounce's workbook, vocabulary, grammar, and the survival kit. Going through his video lectures the past couple of days. I also have around 20 other books about vocabulary and grammar. I personally believe that with all this time spent in classes, a couple of things that were required...

Is God's "Free" Gift of Salvation Really Free?

One of the main reasons I started school to begin with was because I was tired of not getting good answer, or no answers, to questions. So, I decided I would learn to find answers myself. I have slowly started seeing the same issues when it comes to languages. I'll be finishing a Master of Arts...

Is God's "Free" Gift of Salvation Really Free?

That's what I thought, but there have been a few sort of micro conversations in the thread and I seem to have gotten myself confused lol. I only recently started learning Greek, so I have no clue about that. Of course I can use Logos and look up all kinds of fancy words and stuff, but that's...

Is God's "Free" Gift of Salvation Really Free?

I've been thinking about this for a bit, and here's where I am at the moment on the topic: Grace is offered. The debate seems to be around the words "freely," "gift," and "works." Regardless of all that, let's just say we have accepted this grace, and we have done so because we say we have...

Is God's "Free" Gift of Salvation Really Free?

In almost eight years of classes, not once have I heard that putting English verses together to support an argument was not exegetical just because it didn't use the Greek, but was instead systematic theology. I'm NOT saying you're wrong lol, just that I have never heard it put that way. I also...
