What is Hell? Who goes there? (moved from WWMC)

Interesting. Let me take your first point if I understand you correctly. You believe I endorse "scripture interprets scripture"? That's new to me, however I think I get the idea. So what is the alternative to that? Secondly, I never said that there is only one interpretation of the verses...

Joe, Interesting idea. Why do you think that? -Mark

What is Hell? Who goes there? (moved from WWMC)

Pat, I'm confused. What other way is their to look at the verses I quoted? TIA

What is Hell? Who goes there? (moved from WWMC)

Pat, Wouldn't it be more prudent to look at the scriptures to determine their view, rather than look for scriptures to support a view (ie. something other than "the traditional fundy view")?

What is Hell? Who goes there? (moved from WWMC)

Pats, You're getting some very interesting answers to your question. Unfortunatly most of them appear to be ungrounded opinions. Hell is the ultimate destination of unbelievers, characterized by unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), darkness (Math 25:33), and "weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Math 13:42).

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Fortunatly/unfortunatly depending on which side of the issue you fall, it does not matter whether Christians agree if it is a sin. God's opinion is the only one that is relevant. If you believe in the inerancy of the scriptures(if you don't that's a topic for another board I'm sure), then it's...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Normal huh? Guess it would depend on your definition of normal. No matter how "normal" it is, normal doesn't equal right. It's "normal" for people to sin since we're all fallen. However it's quite clear that this "normal" behavior (sinning) is not right in God's eyes.

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

re it er ate To say or do again or repeatedly First time I've heard you say that. Sorry, I must have missed it. Which post was that? My "flavor" of christianity? I certainly do not believe there are different flavors of christianity as there are different flavors of ice...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Your stated homosexuals are denied equal protection. How are they denied equal protection any more than the pedophile who wants to marry a child, the polygamist, the couple in an incestuous relationship. We can all mary someone of the opposite sex, even homosexuals. Let me give you an example...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Yes I'm glad you agree, non religious reasons can rely on cause and effect. Which is why you have yet to prove gay marriage is a civil right. As far as treating all people of all religions fairly..... unfortunatly if I'm right, and christianity is true, such treatment won't be afforded them...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Interesting that a christian would only want a reason not based upon religion. Hmmmmm.

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

My friend, you were the one who defended the position that gay marriage was similar to the civil rights movement. I did not make the claim. I have yet to see a sound arguement from you that denial of gay marriage is indeed denying a civil right.

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Does it necessarly mean that if you are against something, that you are harboring hatred? Being against gay marriage certainly does not mean you hate gays. I'm sure there are some who do, but to assume that hatred necesarly follows from an opposition to gay marriage is ludicrious, as is an...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

Our society makes judgements about degrees of right and wrong all the time. Take our judicial system for example. Shooting someone in the face would most likely result in death, at least disfigurement and probably brain damage. This crime would no doubt be given a stiffer penalty in a court...

Gay marriage ban fails to advance

So aren't there reasons that homosexuals can't marry as well. Or was that rule just thrown in there with no reason as a side note? Hold on! I have yet to give a religious reason for prohibitting homosexuals from marrying.
