Does anyone here know anything about living in Texas?

I lived in Austin for a year and loved it. It is hot but not nearly as hot as where I moved from in north Mississippi. Austin had lower humidity and there was always wind blowing. Very pretty in the hill country. I did not like the Dallas area which was so flat you could see forever. Winters...

Anyone up for a chat thread?

Growing up in TEC every one kneeled and new people always fainted. I would still kneel but I have bad knees. The church here is combined with the Lutheran church and very few kneel.

Women.. not really a political topic anymore but gays are a very hot topic causing division and it has been political for some time. Seems to be a settled issue legally now.

Umm. The Episcopal church 'split'.. had a schism and a great many went to the Anglican usa church over 2 political issues. I have heard of infighting in the Presb and Methodist churches. The biggest local church in my state just pulled out of the United Methodist denomination over a political...

Many many things including finances and the care of a disabled daughter and not being able to take her small child with us.

Oh dear. You would be miserable here. You heard about Kim Davis right? The woman who refused the marriage license to gay couples.. it was all over the news. Some Christian political candidates even flew in to stand by her side. Christians everywhere were applauding her and many in pulpits were...

There was a march by white supremists and KKK members a few months ago. Our 'president' remarked that there were some 'very fine people' in that group. You will find most of his supporters in church especially in the South. Do you really think a black person would want to be in that same...

That is what I have been saying. Also, for all the talk about the Baptist church policies, 6% is a very low number. I daresay most black people would never feel comfortable in a white Baptist church. You brothers in Australia do not understand what life is like in the South USA. Racism is a bit...

I did not know about that President. Just speaking from personal experience, I have never seen an non white in a Baptist or even a Methodist church. 6% is nothing to brag about but it's a start.

Well I guess I am thinking along the lines of if I were a member of *unnamed denomination'*, the preaching would be more of not helping the poor etc. It would be against what I think the bible teaches so I would be most uncomfortable. From what I see too many are teaching what a political party...

MOST churches in the Deep south are southern Baptist and other Baptist. Next would be Methodist. Maybe it is not as widespread as it was in the 1950's (over 50 yrs ago) but it is still here!! And it should not be here at all especially among professing Christians. The klan is still going strong...

I will give you an example. A good friend said to me just a few weeks ago 'those *insert curse word* blacks. And then went on to complain that a Mexican had moved into her neighborhood. She is Lutheran. Everyone I know feels the same way. And these people are well educated. My ex husband could...

Thankfully, so far, we don't have any topics that could cost the pastor his life if he spoke out. You would think those things wouldn't need to be taught, that everyone would know. Back then a pastor probably didn't dare speak out just like in communist countries today. I do feel that racism...

I am sure I don't know lol. I just know how Americans are and if any 'hot' topic is even alluded too, some of the congregation will be offended resulting in problems. Part of this country is 'off with their heads' concerning immigrants as is made clear by many leading evangelicals and part...
