The doctrine of eternal punishment is just another example of what you get when you take scripture literally. I would venture to say that all false doctrines are brought into existence via literal interpretations of scripture.

Yes, I just love how Christians like to assert that scripture is literal, until it comes hacking off a foot, a hand, or gouging out an eye.

You might find that those verses you think are about everlasting punishment, are actually not about that at all.
