And Adam was not Deceived - 1 Timothy 2:14

That’s an interesting interpretation I’ve not heard before. My theory is, he knew it was the fruit, but ate anyway because Eve didn’t die. And that convinced him incorrectly that there wasn’t anything wrong with it.

And Adam was not Deceived - 1 Timothy 2:14

Right. But was he with her the whole time, or only during the time that he took the fruit from her and ate? That is the question.

And Adam was not Deceived - 1 Timothy 2:14

Your first point is interesting and noteworthy. I’ve imagined this scenario as well, although I don’t know if we can be one hundred percent sure that Adam was there to witness it or not. And that whole child-bearing thing in the next verse IS really bizarre. Note that the Greek word for “saved”...

And Adam was not Deceived - 1 Timothy 2:14

I understand but when Adam and Eve start playing the blame game, they allude to the order of the deception/sin implying that, as Eve was deceived by the serpent, so too was Adam deceived by Eve. The verse in Timothy goes on to even highlight Eve’s transgression, but again, completely glosses...

And Adam was not Deceived - 1 Timothy 2:14

The entire second portion of 1st Timothy 2 is probably one of the most controversial passages of the entire New Testament, for many understandable reasons. But as I was reading it today, this particular verse stood out to me as... well, odd to say the least. Upon first glance, it seems to be...

    Raising Hands in Church

It really boils down to an issue of the heart, which is really what Jesus was addressing in that Matthew passage. Basically, if the Holy Spirit is compelling you to respond to Him in worship in a certain way, selflessly, then it is absolutely correct and appropriate to do so. Even if it seems...

How do we deal with textual criticism?

Right. I agree, for the most part, although there is the issue of significant textual overlap between Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

How do we deal with textual criticism?

I am fully aware of this trend. I even have a few friends who have done exactly that. I don’t see this happening in my future though. My relationship with Christ has become far too personal for what-ifs to be of any threat.

How do we deal with textual criticism?

In hindsight it is pretty insignificant. It just concerns me that I’ve gotten into the habit of pinpointing these things when I read. It doesn’t help me spiritually at all and it is very distracting.

How do we deal with textual criticism?

    That’s what I mean, yes.

How do we deal with textual criticism?

Well I can think of one, although this one I hadn’t read anything about yet, which is not good because I really need to get out of this habit. Our pastor was preaching on slaying giants a couple of weeks ago and I really liked the message so I read the passages we went over and I noticed this...

How do we deal with textual criticism?

It’s just very difficult to read the Scripture for spiritual growth because I have all of this information I’ve read in the back of my mind, and it is very distracting. I start analyzing everything I read and look for areas of potential redaction, which doesn’t help me at all in spiritual growth.

How do we deal with textual criticism?

In the fall of 2017, on a quest to really dig into the Bible, I made the mistake of getting sidetracked into reading textual criticisms, with the hope that I had the ability to discount it. Instead it left me feeling weak in my faith. From that point up to now, I’ve been in a season of having...

Does Doctrine play any role in Salvation?

Yikes. This really escalated quickly. I’m not talking about what paradise is or isn’t in the context. I’m talking about Salvation and doctrine.

Does Doctrine play any role in Salvation?

Love all the responses so far. Let me be clear on one thing. I realize the thief on the cross was a babe in Christ due to the circumstances. I am not saying we should all be like the thief and stay that way. The question is specifically about Salvation.
