Right. I agree, for the most part, although there is the issue of significant textual overlap between Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

I am fully aware of this trend. I even have a few friends who have done exactly that. I don’t see this happening in my future though. My relationship with Christ has become far too personal for what-ifs to be of any threat.

In hindsight it is pretty insignificant. It just concerns me that I’ve gotten into the habit of pinpointing these things when I read. It doesn’t help me spiritually at all and it is very distracting.

It’s just very difficult to read the Scripture for spiritual growth because I have all of this information I’ve read in the back of my mind, and it is very distracting. I start analyzing everything I read and look for areas of potential redaction, which doesn’t help me at all in spiritual growth.

Yikes. This really escalated quickly. I’m not talking about what paradise is or isn’t in the context. I’m talking about Salvation and doctrine.

Love all the responses so far. Let me be clear on one thing. I realize the thief on the cross was a babe in Christ due to the circumstances. I am not saying we should all be like the thief and stay that way. The question is specifically about Salvation.
