OT: Share songs you like of any genre of any era! (2)

For me, it's all about the harmony and the lyrics are secondary. A cappella is my passion -- especially Barbershop and Doo Wop. When you can hear that "fifth voice" (harmonic overtone) when a quartet is singing close harmony, you've hit the sweet spot!

    Freemasonry

I believe that it has to do with the Masonic sense of "duty." I dabbled in Freemasonry for a couple of years (before I converted) and it appears to me that coming to the assistance of a fellow Freemason is expected to have a higher priority than one's commitment to the Church (or the law.)

    I'm so angry with Protestantism

As a convert, one of the problems that I've had is with: "Theotokos save us" or words to that effect. My priest has pointed out exactly what is meant my "save" in this context, but if we are going to repeatedly use a phrase, it should not require a footnote explaination.

    OQ-Opinion question

I dun'no... Look what happened in Russia. The Czar declaired himself to be Patriarch. As long as the Patriarchate was located in a different country, it might be ok. Then again... being Orthodox might just end up as being a matter of conformity. I'm a lot more passionate about Orthodoxy...

"The Seekers"... Hmmm... are they converts taking classes before they get Chrismated?

    Being a Protestant easy?

I started out as a Lutheran... Most only think about church obligations once a week. Of course, as a choir member, I had to think about it twice a week (choir rehersal.) As an Orthodox Christian you think about God every day (ideally.) Church services, Choir rehersal, Prayer rule, Daily...

    OCA Deaf Outreach

When I went to St. Tikhon's monastery for Thanksgiving my Spiritual Father told me that he would like me to become an ASL Interpreter (so does the Igumen.) This past week I've been networking within the OCA (Orthodox Church in America) for contacts re: Deaf Outreach. The OCA is especially...

    OT: The Things Kids Say

I remember hearing one kid say (many years ago) that he loves his dog because "DOG" is "GOD" spelled backwards! Or was it the other way around? (He's probably a cryptologist working for the government these days!)

Opinion of Non-Orthodox: Are We Cultish?

I think that it's all about the Orthodox mindset as opposed to the Evangelical mindset. Orthodoxy doesn't say: "If you don't go to my church you are going to hell" like many of the Evangelicals do. The Orthodox mindset is: I know that Orthodoxy is within the Church of God but... I don't...

Can't sleep so thought I'd ask a question

I will be visiting a monastery for Pascha. I have been told that the Pascha services start at about 11 pm on Saturday night and end with a Liturgy that begins at about 3:30 am. Remember that the day starts at sundown.
