    Good Manga

I would recommend some of the other Clamp series, but if you're trying to avoid reading something that "you feel like you shouldn't be," some of their series probably aren't such good choices. Cardcaptor Sakura is probably still my favorite. Their newer series Tsubasa is really good too. I...

    Circumcision

There is no medical reason for healthy boys to be circumcised. There is no religious reason for Pauline Christians to be circumcised. There is no cultural reason for most boys to be circumcised. So we opted not to circumicise our boys, lacking any compelling reason to subject them to...

    Forensic Speech

I was best at After Dinner Speaking. I was also pretty good at Extemp, Impromptu, and Rhet Crit. Probably the most fun I had was doing a Duo Interp my freshman year of college. My partner and I had a lot of good times with that piece. Ah, the memories. I'm not familiar with the event...

    Beating the 'Stereotypes'...

Deborah Tannen lives! It's interesting that people who note that men and women tend to have differing communication styles invariably decide that women have got it right. My wife, a woman, who is in fact female, wants me to fix some problems...so I tease her. Wife: There's a spider on the...

    Forensic Speech

I competed in high school and college. I competed in nearly all the events. It was fun.

Anyone going to or is majoring in physics?

I did major in physics. Now I'm a physics professor. Before I started college, I was interested in all the particle physics/GUT variety of physics too. I ended up getting more interested in condensed matter physics, though. Best wishes!

    For all those with children...

We were in college when baby #1 came along. I was 21. Sometimes, I look at what the people I went to grad school with are doing... Got to squash a little envy sometimes. I made different choices than the one's they've made. My children are treasures, and I'll take the joy that's here in...

    How did you know?

The first day we met. There she was. I was 19, and I had never had an immediate interest in anyone ever before. I wanted to get to know that one a little better. Once we started dating, I knew I couldn't let her go...And she stole my jacket...

    A Mood Lightener

I left out part of the vow by accident. You want to know if you've just given vows to the right person...she covered for me by leaving out the same part of hers. What a sweetheart! Of course it means if we ever get really rich or really poor, all bets are off... :)

    Anybody here play DDR?

I used to be the Dancer of Dancers! At least that's what the game always said... But now my wife is better than me. Looking forward to the new game in September (if I remember right).

    A question of physics

What does this mean? The mass of the earth is always important. It's always part of what determines the gravitational field acting on the ball.

    A question of physics

This is the specific fault in your proof--your statement that "C is a constant." The parameter Cd you mention in your formula is not in fact a constant for all objects. Your work obscures any possible mass-dependence of this parameter. (And in fact, drag isn't always proportional to velocity...

What is the Worst Book You Ever Read?

My wife and I picked up a bunch of children's books for the kids at a used book sale a few years ago. I can't remember the title of this one book, but I do remember that it turned out to be a North Vietnamese propaganda book from the 70s! That was pretty bad. Of books for adults, I never...

Are thier any David Eddings fans?

I'm reading them again for the nth time right now! I remember when the first book of the Mallorean was new...'cos I'm so OLD.

    Terry Pratchett

If you liked "Maurice", read some of the later Discworld books. The early ones are fun, but like many authors, Pratchett's style has improved with practice, and the later ones are great. I didn't really like "Maurice" all that much...maybe due to the age of audience it was targeted at?
