And then they moved on. Unlike loads of people in the center-right including so called "serious people" like congressmen who to this day cant just say Biden won a fair election.

But really, most D voters had gnawing doubts about Biden. He was good enough to muddle through was the best they would grant. No one thought he was "sharp" even if they, like me, still thought he maintained better judgement and a sounder moral compass than his likely opponent. As for me I was very disappointed he reneged on his earlier one-term promise. And that was before the debate debacle. In that particular regard his judgement and hubris were dismal imo.

Just shows how bad his opponent came across.

I also think public interest and awareness of politics sharply increased in the 4 years Trump was president his first term and especially so during that first year of Covid lockdowns and protests across the country. Couple that with an eased process to vote by mail and much greater awareness that’s an option I think all contributed to such a high turnout that year. Last year we were slightly more back to normal in terms of turnout and without any candidates really driving people out to the polls we got an extremely close race with Trump only slightly edging out over Harris. Two very unpopular choices to most voters. No crazy conspiracies necessary.

The current US president still cares massively about it. Ok, then maybe yes some fanatics.

Except also loads of regular R voters, and R politicians even in congress still cant let it go. This isnt the fringe.

And stolen election is just one example of the sort of nuttiness that can captivate a huge portion of the American right wing. The doors their mind have been blown off the hinges.

Voter turnout is a big factor. The higher it is, the bigger the advantage for Dems. The trick is getting people motivated to vote. Thats why the GOP wants to make it harder to vote.
