  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have to laugh that the US which historically has very very low tarrifs, now appears to be bragging about "historically high"...

Well no kidding. Your economy never really had them before.

I guess historic doesn't necesarily mean "Good"...so....

USA had plenty of tarriffs until the end of the second world war.

Tariff receipts surged in fiscal 2025, with the U.S. Treasury taking in roughly $195 billion in customs duties that year — more than triple 2024 levels —

Higher taxes means more tax revenue? Unpossible.

Current inflation is 3% vs Biden's 5% -

In 2025, overall food prices are anticipated to rise by approximately 3.0%, with food-at-home prices increasing by about 2.4% and food-away-from-home prices by around 3.9% compared to the previous year.

and then there's the $2,000 checks being discussed.

possible

Not sure why you quoted met post then posted stats unrelated to it but ok.

possible

Possible, with more deficit spending.

Never have people celebrated being taxed this hard.
Hey it's not a tax if Trump does it. In fact, it doesn't actually impact anyone at all in any way.

Except for that kid who touched a tarriff and his conjunctivitis was healed.

Ah, so general making america great again.

Good to know.
Tariffs lead to business closures. Small businesses especially. They ,lack the resources of larger companies, and are particularly vulnerable as they may be forced to raise prices, reduce their product lines, or absorb higher costs to stay afloat, with some ultimately unable to do so and shutting down.

Of course they are Trump’s idea so all good.

Never have people celebrated being taxed this hard.
Between the newfound love of taxes, the authoritarian approach towards speech, and the adoption of alternative medicines, if I didn’t know better, I’d think I was watching a bunch of leftists.
