  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The first part of John 1:1 does not say, "In the beginning was the Word, which contains violence and adult content,"

I think books, like Clockwork Orange and Catcher In The Rye, need warnings on their covers.
And, I think the book, I Am Jazz, needs to be destroyed.

But, God's honest truth, which is everywhere in the Holy Bible, doesn't need any warning labels on it. Reading it and hearing it need to be encouraged to people of all ages. Nothing is inappropriate about God's Word. Everyone, including little children, needs to know about Jesus's death on the cross for everyone's sins. There was no way for Jesus to save us from our sins that wouldn't have hurt Him in any way, as the wages of sin is death. And, the lake of fire is something people of all ages need to be warned about, because without Jesus, that's where you'll end up. I was warned about it when I was a child.

In the Holy Bible, there are stories of killing, torturing, assaulting, and raping, but it's God's honest truth that those things happened.

Nothing in the Bible says that incident was okay.

English Literature students at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom have been warned: Scripture contains some “graphic bodily injury and sexual violence.” Specifically, the institution highlighted the Old Testament account of Cain killing Abel and the gospel accounts of Jesus’ crucifixion.

Other literary works also receive trigger warnings, the university explained. In a statement, it said that type of “content note is a standard academic tool used to signpost when sensitive or graphic content will be discussed.”

But critics called the move a form of censorship, saying it is “misguided” and “absurd” to label God’s Word as potentially triggering.

Bible Receives Trigger Warning from University of Sheffield

Continued below.
Its all about triggers and safe spaces to the point that it actually causes anxiety and division. If Cain killing Abel is a trigger warning then just about everything is a trigger warning. The news is a trigger warning whats happening in Nigeria is a trigger warning. Live assassinations on campuses are trigger warnings.

It is true that theres a lot of violence everywhere. But all this PC is really making it worse. Life is horrible sometimes. But what they don't tell you with the bible is there is a moral to the story. They always want to make it bad and leave out the good bits. If students got the full picture then they would actually be less triggered in life.

context is usually required before replying to a forum post.

--we're talking about.. reading stories... in books. like, the bible.
I don’t see the Bible as simply stories in a book like any other book. Again, nothing in Scripture indicates those incidents with Lot and his daughters was okay.

Leviticus 18:3 ESV - You shall not do as they do… | Biblia

3 ‘You shall not do what is done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do what is done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes.

Egypt was such a den of iniquity- including several pharaohs wedding their own daughters- that I've seen rabbis use "You shall not do as was done in Egypt" as a general catch-all for prohibiting degeneracy.

But incest of any kind is also specifically forbidden as an abomination of Canaan. All incest is forbidden in great detail in Leviticus chapter 18 (which is easy to remember for Americans- Leviticus is the law book and American law says you can marry at 18.) The end of chapter is one of several Old Testament sections that implies the land ownership is tied to not doing weird stuff like they do in Canaan and Egypt such as abortion, furries and gay stuff and "the land will vomit out" inhabitants who do these things.

They should placing a warning on fairy tales then. That stuff was read before college and it intensifies as the student matures.. why single out the Bible? It really makes no sense when you look at the big picture.
Yup. Not to mention many fairy tales, the original, are violent.
