Numerous recent studies estimate the fiscal costs of benefits for illegal aliens.

The CBO estimated that by FY 2034, outlays for “benefits provided to immigrants in the surge population and their children” will total $177 billion. This includes:

  • $59 billion for Obamacare Premium Tax Credits
  • $43 billion for the EITC and CTC
  • $40 billion for Medicaid and CHIP
  • $15 billion for Food Stamps
  • $13 billion for child nutrition programs
  • $4 billion for SSI
The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR)estimates that federal expenditures on illegal aliens in 2023 totaled nearly $66.5 billion. This includes more than $23 billion in federal medical expenditures and $11.6 billion in welfare benefits from Food Stamps, child nutrition, SSI, and other programs.

The Manhattan Institute estimates that that every new illegal immigrant has an average net fiscal burden of about $130,000. The study finds that immigrants without a high school diploma who arrive in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 24 – the profile “most commonly represented among immigrants who entered the country unlawfully,” – can receive $332,000 in taxpayer-provided benefits over their lifetime, including healthcare and other welfare program benefits. The report also details that “the border crisis is expected to cost $1.15 trillion over the lifetime of the new immigrants who entered the country unlawfully, overstayed a visa, or were paroled.”

The Center for Immigration Studies (CSIS) finds that the 1.1 million illegal aliens granted parole by the Biden-Harris Administration between January 2021 and February 2023 may become “qualified aliens” with a $3 billion per year cost in welfare benefits. An estimated 60% of illegal immigrant householdscurrently use at least one welfare program, with an estimated $5,692 in federal benefits received annually. Some benefits, such as the EITC and CTC, provide an estimated $3.8 to $4.5 billion in outright cash payments to illegal immigrants.

I think they owe us money.
I don't know who you mean by "us." Conservatives don't want native born citizens to get that money, either.

The big beautiful bill has in it a tax on remittances. Trump wanted 5%, it passed the House at 3.5%. It is in place for all nations. it will tax US citizens that send to missionaries too. Allegedly, a credit can be claimed if a citizen pays the tax on their income tax return. So more government involvement against the honest people. many will find alternative ways to move money. But yes, if you really want all unauthorized people out, it is possible. Some countries require an exit visa for all non-citizens. If you are illegal and try to leave you get fined big time. There are many more ways but be careful what you wish for. Lots of immigrants doing some critical jobs, like the 15 to more then 50% at every meat processing plant in the USA. Will US workers step up? I have my doubts.

The CBO report you referenced includes both the costs and the revenue generated by immigrants. Here, I will present the revenue side of the report from the same CBO source.

The increase in immigration boosts federal revenues as well as mandatory spending and interest on the debt in CBO’s baseline projections, lowering deficits, on net, by $0.9 trillion over the 2024–2034 period.

CBO estimates that the immigration surge will add $1.2 trillion in federal revenues over the 2024–2034 period.
The annual increase in revenues grows over time and reaches $167 billion (or 2.2 percent of total revenues) in 2034 in the agency’s projections. Individual income taxes and payroll taxes paid by immigrants who are part of the surge are responsible for most of the effects on revenues. In addition, the surge is projected to boost economic activity and, in turn, tax revenues.

Us = US taxpayers. You are bunching up conservatives into one homogenous group. Most conservatives want services to go to those who need it.

As long as they get to decide who needs it--lazy poor people who won't work don't deserve it.

Of course. You think you have the unilateral right to define that group as well.
Both parties have the unilateral right to define the groups. The differences between them is that the liberals want the unvetted free for all regardless of need while the conservatives want to limit based on actual need. An able body person that just does not want to work should not be included.

Or maybe she should start taking care of her people by providing for the poor and needy instead of facilitating the human trafficking and exploitation of her people by the cartels to send them to the US. Mexico is a rich nation being raped by a corrupt government. But all you can think of is blaming the current administration? I smell hypocrisy.

Stench of American hypocrisy.
Americans have been financing the cartels for decades.
Americans have been arming the cartels for decades.
Americans have been hiring illegal immigrants for decades.

And now the American government proposes a tax on Mexican workers?

Sorry but conspiracy theories are not my thing. I don’t necessarily doubt it but is hard to quantify. However, the corruption of the Mexican government and the human smuggling by cartels at the border are well documented.

I think the cops have a pretty good "quantified" idea of how many illegal drugs we buy and how many of the cartels' weapons are souced in the US.

From that perspective you are definitely correct. The US is the main user of drugs from Mexico and the US probably a large supplier of weapons. Both of these are smuggled accross the border.

By that rationale, the US is also the main destination for human trafficking ran by the cartels.

So then, you would have to agree that keeping a tight border reduces both.

Securing a 3,000-mile border is impractical. Instead, we should focus on making it harder for undocumented individuals remain in the United States. Enforcing rules that prevent businesses from hiring undocumented immigrants is crucial but challenging due to our reliance on migrant workers.

Even President Trump, who wants to deport all undocumented immigrants, now wants to make exceptions for some migrant workers and work in the USA. The American economy depends on cheap foreign labor, which is a reality we cannot deny.

Not really. Is happening now.

Mexico and their people are reaping all the benefits in exchange for the economically inexpensive labor of immigrants, both legal and illegal, so therefore, is THAT moral????
The US and their people, us, are reaping tremendous benefits as well off their taxes and labor.

Bus is it moral to do at those relatively inexpensive wages they earn? I think that is a good question to ask whenever a legal OR illegal immigrant doesn't adequately follow our laws or assimilate into cultures of the USA.

That is an entirely different question. My point that the US does benefit stands contrary to your "Mexico and their people are reaping all the benefits..."
I think that is a good question to ask whenever a legal OR illegal immigrant doesn't adequately follow our laws or assimilate into cultures of the USA.
And who gets to judge whether or not a person's assimilation is "adequate"?

They clean our homes, build our houses, harvest our crops, service our vacation destinations, package and prepare our foods and even care for our children.

Let’s not pretend that the people doing all of those jobs are illegal or immigrants. I see a lot of hired help for the home and most of them are otherwise. Especially when you’re dealing with reputable agencies whose employees are licensed and bondable.

We haven’t missed the plot and you can’t go to other places and behave as they. You can’t stay without resources or rely on taxpayers to support your livelihood and it’s a global problem. It isn’t merely christians in America many are complaining worldwide and demanding change. They don’t want the violence, increase in expenses or cultural thuggery. They want their countries back and we’re not alone in that.

Trump isn’t saying anything new. He’s echoing the feelings of citizens around the world who are equally disgusted and want them out. And they don’t care how it happens.
