  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Limited atonement !

He died for many, not all

for by his righteousness many {not all} were justified, {Is.53:11,} because he bare or suffered for their iniquities;

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

Isa 53:12

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Heb 9:28

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Christ was offered to bear the sin of many, meaningly everyone who puts his/her faith on Christ has his/her sins borne by Jesus.

It means many and not all without exception
Yes, it's when we place our trust on Christ our sins are placed on the cross. The cross is an atoning sacrifice. It atones sins, since Jesus took the punishment for sin.

Jesus took the punishment for every sin in the whole world, but he only bears your (the many's) personal sins when you repent and believe.

Sanctification is what happens to those who are already saved and if I were to recognize sins, I would repent. I am not aware of ongoing sins at this time. Sin would not prevent what God is accomplishing in the one He has saved and is sanctifying. You probably have a Bible and don't need my explanations anymore. You can also research online. I've given you several quotes from the Bible. Do you need more?
Well, I’d have to ignore all those years of responsible bible reading and research, including historical research, to believe as you do. But we're actually close on certain points. Either way, good fruit is still the main criteria by which any confidence we might have should be weighed and confirmed, or found to be suspect-and you may well be doing it all better than I. In any case, have a happy and blessed Easter Sunday.

No. We’re pretty much done. I’d have to ignore all those years of responsible bible reading and research, including historical research, to believe as you do. Happy Day, week, and year, to you, too. All answers are in the Bible according to 2 Timothy 3:16..

ROMANS 8
9You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36As it is written:
For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” j
37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, k neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The whole Bible is the Word of God and therefore I study it every day going on 13 years since the death of my husband.

Alright, as many sincere people do regardless of the resulting theologies and how divergent they may be.

Yes, but the many is not a set number. Anyone or everyone can be among the many.
So He didnt die for all mankind, but for the many , And when you see the word all, its meaning all of the Many Heb 9:28

28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

Many is a large set number ,but only God knows it , He chose them all for Christ to die for

Of course you would say that, but no, Jesus died for all mankind in the sense of taking the punishment for everyone, but he only died for the many in the sense of bearing away the personal sin of the individual, since that happens when we respond in faith.

We respond in faith when God gives us faith thereby setting us free from the ruler of the power of the air:

EPHESIANS 2
1And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, 2in which you used to walk when you conformed to the ways of this world and of the ruler of the power of the air, the spirit who is now at work in the sons of disobedience. 3All of us also lived among them at one time, fulfilling the cravings of our flesh and indulging its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature children of wrath.
4But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved! 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Christs Death is limited to them that are the called !

Heb 9:12-15

12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

It was Gods purpose in Christs Death that certain people might receive Eternal Life, or Eternal Inheritance, not everyone, but " they which are called" !

Now the called in Vs 15 are a specific, definite people since the writer uses the definite article for the called ! All without exception are not the called.

There are a specific group of people in this world that the called, Rom 8:28

28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

See " them that are the called here" must be distinguished from all others

1 Cor 1:23-24

23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;

24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

See how the called here are distinguished, set apart from the others, whether they be jews of gentiles, the called are set apart people from the rest of the world. Paul writes to the same Corinithians earlier 1 Cor 1:1-2
Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,

2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their's and our's:

The called have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, that is set apart from the rest of the world, and so it is for all for whom Christ died. Heb 10:10

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body/death of Jesus Christ/ once for all.

We respond in faith when God gives us faith thereby setting us free from the ruler of the power of the air:

Those whom Christ died for are given faith in Christ when the Spirit sanctifies them which causes belief in the Truth 2 Thess 2:13

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

All the elect for whom Christ died will be sanctified by the Spirit Eph 5:25-26

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

This sanctifying is by the Spirit and causes belief of the Truth

New Covenant Blood of Christ wasnt shed for all mankind, but only for a Many Matt 26:28

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

So the Many shall receive the result for which the Covenant blood was shed for them for, the remission or forgivenss of sins,

So Jesus gives all the New Covenant recipients repentance and forgivenss/remission of sins, which the shedding of His Blood demands for them Acts 5:31

31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

They are children of the Covenant Acts 3:25

Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant
which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.

It's kind of both, or somewhere in between, though, isnt it? Faith is a gift of grace but one that we can still refuse, as is the case with hope and love for that matter. To the extent that we accept and embrace and act upon those gifts, that grace, we're alive.

All I know is I was convicted of being a sinner and prayed to God for forgiveness and He made me alive/born again. I guess it can be differently for different people.

No, when we are children of wrath we respond in faith and God saves us, makes us alive by His mercy.

False teaching, men by nature are at enmity against God, dead in sin, and are under the control of a spirit of disobedience, which is unbelief Eph 2:2-3

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
