Good on President Biden for calling out Hinchcliffe’s garbage comedy. That’s a leader standing up for his fellow Americans in PR.

^_^

It's amusing watching the spin cycle on full speed!

No kidding. That MSG rally ended up being much worse for Trump than I thought if it’s got y’all working this hard to distract from it.

Well that's good. Your comment, "can you blame them?", seems to be offering up a justification for why many Democrats feel like Republicans are "garbage".

This is the correct response from VP Harris.

Kudos to Harris for playing damage control well.

But this?

Reporter: "Have you spoken to him about his comments?"

Harris: "He did call me last night, but this didn't come up."

Right. We're supposed to believe that something that has left the White House "scrambling" and has the potential to impact the election "didn't come up".

I'm not distracting from anything. Biden called half the country "garbage" in his remarks about what happened in that MSG rally. I can understand why you'd want to downplay that.

It's not a new topic. This was Biden's response to THIS TOPIC. It is absolutely relevant to the discussion.
Ok. Thats fair.
If you believe that he meant to say his supporter's..... then there is a word missing there. The much simpler explanation is that Biden said what he said about supporters.
No missing word. Its common speech to use the possessive to refer to a word youve said earlier in the sentence. The question is: do we prefer to assume the worst or not?

Well on that, we agree. But let's not downplay the fact that Democrats are willing to give Biden the benefit of the doubt here because if they don't, it makes them look incredibly hypocritical and potentially harms their prospects in the election.

That is your uncharitable interpretation of his statement.

It’s funny how when “garbage” was directed at the nation of Puerto Rico you all were insisting it was just a funny joke and people should lighten up but are apparently super offended when you think that same word is directed at you.

How would this impact the election? Biden isn’t the candidate anymore.

There's no doubting that, but can you blame them? Afterall, Trump and his supporters are often using words like "degenerates," "anti-Christ," “scum,” “vermin,” “animals,” "demon rats," and “the enemy within” to describe them.

It's more than a bit hypocritical for Trump supporters to be complaining about someone viewing them as garbage when they are using similar, or even worse, terms to describe the person they are criticizing.
Worse than "basket of deplorables", encouraging violence against Trump supporters, nazis, bigots, homophobes, and regardless of how it's now being spun, garbage...yeah. The Democrats do not have the moral high ground to stand on. It's phony outrage from the left about a joke that wasn't even made by Trump, but somehow used to blame him for it when the left has said and done much worse.

That is MOST PEOPLE'S accurate interpretation of his statement.

Actually, I didn't offer any commentary on that at all. You might be surprised to know that I find both comments reprehensible, while it appears that you only find the word "garbage" objectionable when it's used by Republicans. But I suppose it's (D)ifferent somehow.

You know how "most people" feel about this? Or do you just agree with the interpretation that looks best for the Democrats?

You don't think the sitting President of the United States has an impact on the election? I mean, he is the current leader not only of the Democratic Party, but of the free world. Certainly his comments carry weight. I suspect that the Harris campaign views Biden mostly as a liability, which is why they don't have him speak often.

I think you may be confused, because if you read my comments in this thread, you'll see that I absolutely do not agree with with the interpretation that looks best for the Democrats.

Only Biden knows whats accurate here. The rest of us have 2 common meanings to pick from, according to our preference.

And Biden did clarify for us which of the 2 he meant.

I will refer you back to my earlier comment. Jesus said out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Regardless of what Biden did or did not intend to say, it's pretty obvious that many Democrats have an, uh, less-than-charitable opinion of Republicans.

See, I could never "accidentally" call anyone on this forum (or anyone anywhere, for that matter) "garbage" because while I obviously don't agree with everything everyone says, I don't entertain the idea that people are "garbage". Since it's not in my heart, it can't come out of my mouth.

I don’t think anyone is voting based solely on a joke at a rally or a clumsy comment from the outgoing president.
