  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Vice President Kamala Harris is backing away from her past promise to use presidential power to unilaterally give a path to citizenship to 2 million "Dreamers" — undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
Why it matters: It's part of a pattern in which Harris and her team have changed her positions or declined to say whether she still supports some of the progressive policies she ran on during her presidential campaign in 2019.

It seems like she says whatever can best help her win.

There's literally nothing in any link that says she's changed her mind about helping Dreamers.

Did her opponent ever change his mind?
Sometimes candidates develop more realistic goals and modify their positions in order to keep "realistic" promises.
I believe this describes Harris.

I like Axios a lot, but it seems that the article did not discuss any statistics on how Harris is gonna win by shifting her stance. The only instance of "win" in the entire article is the fact that the stock image of Harris on another unrelated article on Axios was taken by photographer Win McNamee. Pretty cool name by the way. I wonder if Win has won any awards for her photography work. :) Yes, I am a proud pun user.

Oh wait, Win McNamee was a winner of the Pulitzer prize. Dang, that is pretty cool:

A fair point. The writer should have started out with quotations from Kamala's border visit (such as in the CBS article below) about cracking down on those who enter our country illegally and noted that dreamers entered our country illegally. THEN they could state Kamala declined to say anything when asked specifically about dreamers.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Those who cross our borders unlawfully will be apprehended and removed and barred from reentering for five-years," Harris added later in her remarks. "We will pursue more severe criminal charges for repeat violators. And if someone does not make an asylum request at a legal point of entry, and instead crosses our border unlawfully, they will be barred from receiving asylum."
Harris' comments marked a dramatic departure from her more liberal immigration positions during the 2020 campaign, when she signaled support for decriminalizing unauthorized border crossings and more lenient asylum policies.

I do like this quote from Harris: "Those who cross our borders unlawfully will be apprehended and removed and barred from reentering for five-years," Harris added later in her remarks. "We will pursue more severe criminal charges for repeat violators. And if someone does not make an asylum request at a legal point of entry, and instead crosses our border unlawfully, they will be barred from receiving asylum." It is good that Harris stated this. But hey, I am gonna vote 3rd party this year, so it does not matter what Harris says, does, or does not do, cos it does not apply to my 3rd party candidate. :)

Harris in Douglas, AZ last Friday:

"I also have in mind our DREAMers. I have met — (applause) — I have met with so many of our DREAMers throughout my career. They who have grown up in the United States, were educated here, pay taxes here, serve in our military, and contribute to our communities every day. They are American in every way, but still, they do not have an earned pathway to citizenship. And this problem has gone unsolved, at this point now, for decades."

...

In the four years that Donald Trump was president, he did nothing to fix our broken immigration system. He did not solve the shortage of immigration judges. He did not solve the shortage of border agents. He did not create lawful pathways into our nation. He did nothing to address an outdated asylum system and did not work with other governments in our hemisphere to deal with what clearly is also a regional challenge. (Applause.)

As overdoses went up during his presidency, he fought to slash funding for the fight against fentanyl. And what did he do instead? Well, let’s talk about that. He separated families. He ripped toddlers out of their mother’s arms, put children in cages, and tried to end protections for DREAMers. "

Majorities of Americans have long supported a pathway to citizenship for the dreamers.

Must be a first. Can't remember any other politician in history ever doing that before!

Enough with the hoaxes. The cages were built by the Obama/Biden administration. When the Biden/Harris administration held people in cages they barred the press from observing the horrible conditions. They lied and said the border was safe, secure, and closed while our southern border towns were being destroyed. Only the busing of migrants to the north forced the press to cover the story, and liberal mayors in New York and Chicago and other places started complaining.

Enough with the distortion.
Trump's policy separated children from their parents. It was intentional, designed to act as deterent.

Serveral links are referenced:
The United States family separation policy under the Trump administration was presented to the public as a "zero tolerance" approach intended to deter illegal immigration and to encourage tougher legislation.[1] In some cases, families following the legal procedure to apply for asylum at official border crossings were also separated. It was officially adopted across the entire US–Mexico border from April 2018 until June 2018.[2] Under the policy, federal authorities separated children and infants from parents or guardians with whom they had entered the US.[3][4][5] The adults were prosecuted and held in federal jails or deported, and the children were placed under the supervision of the US Department of Health and Human Services.[3] More than 5,500 children, including infants, were removed and up to 2,000 still have not been reunited as of March 2024.[6][7][8][9][10]
