If they are stopped legally and they are breaking the law by just being here then the local police do have the duty to turn them over to ICE. Same applies if aa person is doing time and ICE has a detainer on them when they are released they are not released they are handed over to ICE.
How will they know from a simple traffic stop though. Do we really want to check immigration status by appearance alone?

Sure they can ask if they're here legally, But if they're not all they can do is contact immigration.
I quit doing it because all they ever told me was to get good names and addresses.
Yeah because everyone just carries their birth certificate or green card with them all the time.

Why or how would the question even come up? Funny looking with a weird name? Must be an illegal! Papers please.

That is an absolute dystopia you guys are painting. I’m glad that’s not the America I live in.

That is a good point still I believe that a traffic infraction should be able to get people here illegally deported if they can prove that they are in fact illegally here now IF someone is legally here on either a visa or a green card then those people should NOT be deported for infractions.

They really think that a police officer can just demand you prove your legal status based on appearance alone and if you don’t happen to be carrying your birth certificate with you then you’re out of luck.

When no one has any ID or speaks English it gives you a clue
English in particular no ID bad but that is not as much of a clue as not knowing English.

Why would someone need to speak English to be a citizen? That’s not a requirement to be an American.

How does speaking English even prove citizenship? They could be Canadian. They could have learned English in another country. I think people should speak Spanish to prove they’re American. It’s just as valid as speaking English in this country.

Actually, to be cititzen you pretty much do have to know English unless you are born to parents who are not citizens because with very few exceptions in order to pass the citizenship test you must read, write and speak English,

There are exceptions for the elderly, but beyond that to earn your citizenship you must speak, read and write English.

How so if you have no right to be here ten just in being here you are breaking the law.
It’s dystopian to be profiled as an illegal by the police during a simple traffic stop and made to prove your citizenship based on only the officer’s suspicion that you’re not an American.

Thankfully that’s not the country we live in no matter how much the right wants to take us down that path.

But we are talking about legal, not necessarily citizens.

Yes and if you are here legally you will have an ID and likely speak at least a little English. The people who do not have IDS and cannot speak English should be sespect.

When you have a van full of people and only one speaks English and you ask "How many legal, how many illegal?" and they tell you

That’s what I’m saying. This whole profiling thing is based on nothing but racist assumptions. You can have illegals who speak perfect English and American citizens who don’t know a lick of it.

How could you be an adult American and not speak a lick of English?
