  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What will satan be doing in the abyss for 1000 years?

... after their resurrection satan will have access to them on the earth and he deceives them into attacking the city that descended from heaven.

The bible describes it as a cube .... the city will be attacked but to no avail of any kind ... "the cube (city)" is protected by the power of God and is nothing can prevail against it. It don't matter what we may think in regard to the "cube" penetrating our atmosphere or not. God is not restricted by anything. The final battle with satan and his minions is His .. God don't need our help ... the people of God will be protected in the city and God Himself will destroy everything on the earth.

Twiddling his thumbs? Plotting rebellion? Suffering in fear and torment? What do you think?
If it is really a place of torment - I imagine he would be forced to become a moderator in a Christian Forum.

Remember to pray for our Mod team - they really do a thankless job to the best of their ability.

Well, shure. I'm just wondering what you have to have on your side to make you think you have something which can.
Other than bourbon.

A city that size, hitting it with a nuke would be like leaving a little rude graffiti.

You don't have the population needed to capture it. If you still have a physical body, It would be pretty hard to even find anyone IN it. Waiting in line at the elevators to get to floor 8,457 would be... well, that's just say it wouldn't be Heaven. And that's before you got on and found someone's kid had pushed all the buttons.

It's basically an artificial planet unto itself, it's literally on par with the size of our current moon if the Rev author's dimensions are taken non metaphorically.

So who on earth attacks this thing and why and with what???

Must be muggers lol.

I don't know. Satan may not have any sane thought to be doing anything. You ever had a problem so great you're driving somewhere and hours later you think back and can't remember having driven to where you're at? You did but you were so preoccupied you have a struggle consciously remembering it. That could be like what hell is like. What we think of as time may not mean much of anything. Just a speculation.

It's easier to experience resentment than it is to remember it. I expect you are right, absent the Holy Spirit or any trace of the traits of it, it may be a lot like that. Mostly just insanity. The demons of the New Testament weren't suave or debonaire, they were things like the Legion or throwing children into coals. Didn't seem like they were much for planning.

When Jesus returns the earth is left in a completely desolate state.

2nd Peter 3
10But the Day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and its works will be laid bare.

Laid bare ... everything destroyed ... there won't be any "nukes" ... earth is left completely desolate ... everything destroyed by fire.

The 2nd resurrection are of the wicked dead.

Revelation 20

“Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them” (Revelation 20:7-9).

Gog and Magog are used symbolically in Revelation 20 for the nations of the wicked assembled by Satan after the one thousand years to attack the New Jerusalem. There the wicked host is destroyed by God who sends fire out of heaven to consume them.

By them attacking the city ... It will show the entire universe that God's judgements in regard to them not receiving eternal life was completely just and all will understand why He destroys all of them ... there will be no doubt.

One don't need physical weapons to attack ... they can do so by overwhelming numbers .... the wicked dead are described like the sands of the sea.

Revelation 20

7And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison 8and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. 9And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them, 10and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire

I don’t think I’ve thought about this. I don’t think it says what Satan will do when he’s bound during the 1,000 year reign. Though he could be plotting to overthrow God, since it does say he must be released for a little while after that time is over.

Some may wonder why Satan must be released for a little while after the millennium. Well, I don’t have a good answer for that. It’s probably something God has kept hidden until that time, though there could be some possibilities.

I honestly don’t know what Satan will be doing during the 1,000 years. We do know, however, it’s going to keep him from tempting people until the thousand years are over.

In the Amillennialist understanding the thousand years are symbolic and refer to the period of time between the Lord's Ascension and His future Parousia. It refers to the fact that Christ is, right now, King of kings and Lord of lords, enthroned at the right hand of the Father, having been given eternal kingdom and dominion. And the primary way we experience Christ's kingdom is in and through His Church: as the Gospel is proclaimed, sins are forgiven, and the lowly are loved and cared for.

The devil is seen as defeated already, when Christ suffered and died once for the sins of the world He has defeated sin, death, hell, and the devil. The concept of the Harrowing of Hell and Christ's descent into hell means victory is already attained, by the Lord Jesus, having overthrown the devil's kingdom. So when we read in the Apocalypse that the devil was bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years, and also that we read that he rages because his time is short, those are not seen as sequential, but simultaneous. The devil is defeated, and he rages. St. Paul says he is like a roaring lion seeking to devour whomever he can; at the same time St. James writes that if we resist the devil he flees. The image of the roaring lion is an interesting one, it is the image of a lone scavenger. Male lions, without a pride, are lone, wandering the wilderness, and will eat whatever they come upon. The devil is not depicted as a proud ruler of a pride of lions, but as a defeated lone lion wandering on the outskirts, who is starving and will eat anything because he is desperate and weak.

Remember the Disney movie The Lion King? The character of Scar? That's the devil, out among the bones, a scavenger, emaciated, loud and a coward. A liar, a schemer, and utterly pathetic.

Christ has conquered, the devil has been overthrown, death is defeated, Christ is risen. The devil's time is short, he is loud, he is angry, he rages--but we can endure his rage because we have Christ, and in Christ we are more than conquerors.

Seriously, what are they attacking it with? The moon?

Or one humdinger of an asteroid. Maybe if one knocked Ceres or a Kuiper Belt object out of its orbit.

Indeed, and amillenialism is the correct interpretation of Scripture. Chiliasm was officially rejected by the early church at the Council of Constantinople in 381, which is why the Nicene Creed says of our Lord, “His kingdom shall have no end.”

The majority of Christians are amillenial, despite the growth of Chiliasm among evangelical, fundamentalist and pentecostal churches, since the Orthodox, Roman Catholics, Lutherans and Anglicans continue to account for a majority.
