When Jesus returns He takes the resurrected saved (and the saved living at that time) to heaven for the 1,000 years. Everything earthly is destroyed (described as abyss*) .... satan and his minions are left on a desolate earth .. they have nobody to tempt into sin. This is how satan is "chained" (nobody to tempt)

He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time

So yes ... in a sense they will be "twiddling their thumbs" as they won't have anyone to tempt ... they await final judgement and their imminent destruction (2nd death) and that happens at the 2nd resurrection (after the 1,000 years) ... the resurrection of all the lost.

If it's talking about the nations of the world then that would indicate we are not going to heaven for 1000 years, but stay on Earth.

People make up nations ... there will be people from many nations in heaven ... so both people and nations in heaven

If that's the case then it would indicate Satan could decieve the nation's in heaven because the text says he will be barred from doing so. The nations are talking about those on earth. There is only one ultimate nation headed by Christ when all is said and done. So I disagree.

No ... because satan is not in heaven ... he is confined to earth ... all of the wicked dead will be resurrected at the 2nd resurrection (people from many nations) .... and then once again satan has them to do his bidding ... this is the battle of Gog and Magog ... satan and the wicked dead attacking the city that has descended from heaven.

When the thousand years come to an end, Satan will be let out of his prison (2nd resurrection of the wicked dead happens). He will go out to deceive the nations—called Gog and Magog—in every corner of the earth. He will gather them together for battle—a mighty army, as numberless as sand along the seashore. The verses say that he is stopped from deceiving the nations. This would imply that, if he were not stopped, he would be able to deceive the nations. But we know there's no way he could deceive nations that reside in heaven, that just wouldnt' happen. So this I take to mean that he is stopped from deceiving nations that are on Earth.

I agree, the wicked will live to fight another day after the 1000 years but don't forget a 1000 years to God is but day. So will the battle of Gog and Magog happen the day after the morrow ?

I'm saying that ultimately all nations from the Earth get subsumed into one nation under Christ. There is no difference between any nations in Eternity. everyone becomes the same nation.

There are two groups of people/nations ... first group have been transformed and taken to heaven and receive eternal life (1st resurrection) ... the other group remains on earth and they die the first death. The group left on earth will be resurrected after the 1,000 years and those in the 2nd resurrection are not transformed and are mortal (do not received eternal life) ... the lost from the first death.

The saved (first resurrection} ... saved people that make up nations are in heaven (satan don't have access to these people/nations). they are transformed and are forever with the Lord.

The lost - from the 2nd resurrection (the resurrected lost) are people that made up earthly nations ... after their resurrection satan will have access to them on the earth and he deceives them into attacking the city that descended from heaven. This is the final earthly battle ((battle of Gog and Magog) God executes final judgement and destroys all for eternity ... this is the 2nd death ... death for eternity.

The last enemy to be destroyed is death (the 2nd death) and those are the ones from the 2nd resurrection, they will be destroyed by God Himself. This is His final judgement for eternity.
