Ephesian Chapter 1 :3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to sonship[c] through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he[d] made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment—to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ.

How did God choose and predestine us to be saved?
Does my freewill play any determinative role?
Any contradiction between God's sovereignty to choose and my freewill?

I'd like to know also. There have been several threads on this. I'll never get it straight in my mind.

4 For he chose us in him before the creation of the world
By the sprinkling of the blood of the Lamb,
slain before the creation of the world.

Please don't ask for an explanation,
It's the darnedest thing.
1 Peter 1:2
elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

The church never taught strict determinism, as if the will of man has no meaningful role to play at all. Some teachings I’m familiar with:

600 To God, all moments of time are present in their immediacy. When therefore he establishes his eternal plan of "predestination", he includes in it each person's free response to his grace: "In this city, in fact, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place." For the sake of accomplishing his plan of salvation, God permitted the acts that flowed from their blindness.

1037 God predestines no one to go to hell; for this, a willful turning away from God (a mortal sin) is necessary, and persistence in it until the end. In the Eucharistic liturgy and in the daily prayers of her faithful, the Church implores the mercy of God, who does not want "any to perish, but all to come to repentance":

The will of man has no role in ultimate destiny but has a huge impact on eternal reward.
Why would that be, Carl? I don’t see the reward thing as playing a big part in Scripture, or as being a big motivator for believers I know, either. As it appears, the most important reward is eternal life, now that we’re equipped, by the Spirit, to attain it. I mean, the will of man plays a role from Genesis through Revelation in the most important thing, his eternal destiny, as I see it.

And that’s really the only reason that he needs the Bible, that he needs knowledge, information, revelation, IOW, so that he may hear, understand, and choose, even as grace is also essential in his making and growing stronger and more confirmed in that choice, that choice for goodness, that choice for God.

There is no where in The Bible where it states God has predestine people to Eternal Life. God chooses believers to service, He choose Israel as a people to Himself. But God has not chosen x amount of people to receive Eternal Life and x amount people to go to the lake of fire.

God does not force anyone to believe and have faith in him. Your freewill does play a role. Jesus Christ said in Luke 16:29-31 "Abraham said to him, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them". God gave us the Law and prophecy to help us. It is up to us whether we listen and obey the law of God and allow him to save us or not
May God Bless You

So then in your way of thinking everyone will go to heaven?

No. In my way of thinking, both Heaven and Hell are full of very surprised people.
But it's OK. In the end, everyone gets to be with their Father where they belong.

Good Day, Layhong

How that is a big question, and you added question do expand the scope.

How does God choose..

Ok by predestining (verb some thing God does).

Thayer Definition:
1) to predetermine, decide beforehand
2) in the NT of God decreeing from eternity
3) to foreordain, appoint beforehand
Part of Speech: verb

By His adopting us as his own (Children) the relationship which we have with God was established God.
In accordance to His good pleasure His motivation. Children of wrath by nature need out side intervention to become children of God, and he does that though His son Jesus.

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

I guess that depends how you define free-will. If you mean we make a choice (freely) yes we do. The reason why some choose and some do not is a bigger question...

People who love darkness will always choose the darkness they love ( shun the light that they hate) as it is their strongest desire and part of their nature ( wrath objects). They choose that darkness freely.

Does God have a free will?

No contradiction God is sovereign ( all powerful and over all his creation) and your free will is under and dependent upon God.

I would submit much like Jonah God is under no obligation to submit to your choices. God said Go he said no in the end God wins every time all the time that is what makes him God. In the end Jonna was none to happy and clearly that did not matter to God a bit.

In Him,

Bill

As it appears, the most important reward is eternal life,
Genesis 15:1 After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying,
Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield,
your exceedingly great reward.

Eternal reward is established by our nearness
to God. At Sinai, from tabernacle to Temple,
to believers being granted access and instructed to come boldly before Him, all is determining who
has served Him, and by extension, who has drawn
near, as a reflection of His glory.

1 Kings 10:8 Happy are your men and happy are
these your servants, who stand continually before you and hear your wisdom!

Many are on fire for the Lord when they first come
to Him, but against all wisdom, grow weary in well
doing and draw back or turn away. Reward can be
forfeited, and there is a full reward.

2 John 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we do not lose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.

Drawing near to God expresses our faith
for the salvation of our soul.

Hebrews 10:
22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
35 Therefore do not cast away your confidence,
which has great reward.
36
For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:
37 “For yet a little while,
And He who is coming will come and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith;
But if anyone draws back,
My soul has no pleasure in him.”
39
But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the
saving of the soul.

Jesus is teaching on nearness to God and eternal
reward in the parable of the guests at the wedding
feast, and taking the low seat.

Luke 14:
10
But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in the presence of those who sit at the table with you.
11 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Think about where you would like to abide in the
city of God, assuming that the Father and the Son
are in the highest place.

Revelation 21:16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand stadia*. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. (*that's 1380 miles!)

Our eternal reward is not equal and is expressed
in the degree of His glory we reflect. Paul gives
the analogy that not all stars shine with the same
glory.

1 Corinthians 15:
41
There is one glory of the sun, another glory of
the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
42
So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption.
43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

The degree to which we stay the course on the narrow
road serving the Lord in our walk of faith will be reflected in this truth. This is the working of the
Holy Spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

True Christian fellowship plays a critical role
for being established in this truth.

Malachi 3:
16
Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them;
So a book of remembrance was written before Him
For those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name.
17 “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels.
And I will spare them as a man spares
his own son who serves him.
18 Then you shall again discern
Between the righteous and the wicked,
Between one who serves God
And one who does not serve Him.

We persevere in service to the Lord for
the sake of all the brethren.

2 Timothy 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

Peter ties this to the suffering way of those
who have endured the chastening of the Lord,
which is for our perfection.

1 Peter 5:10 But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus,
after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

There is no where in The Bible where it states God has predestine people to Eternal Life.

Rom 8 ...
he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Can people who are conformed to the image not people who also have eternal life?

Joh 17:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

Mat 11:27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

The revelation of the Father is the exclusive choice of the Son, all that the father gives to me come to me and I will raise them up on the last day, that is will of the Father whop sent me.

God chooses believers to service, He choose Israel as a people to Himself.

Yes both are true, so you see that God chose his own people in the OC, but can not allow God to choose his own in the NC... why is that?

But God has not chosen x amount of people to receive Eternal Life and x amount people to go to the lake of fire.

The issue here is salvation is all of the Lord start to finish, and God has to do nothing at all people go to hell for their sin, and they sin, because they are sinners.

In Him,

Bill

The word predestined simply means chosen, appointed, or ordained beforehand. He chose us before creation according to His foreknowledge of those who would repent, believe, and abide in Christ.

Good Day,

Agreed.. he knew long before "hand" (to predetermine, decide beforehand) that he would grant belief for the sake of Christ.

Php 1:29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake.

Repentance is also Granted by God, he knew beforehand he would be doing that

2Ti 2:25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

We abide in Christ, because of Christ we can do nothing with out him. The Father gave us to Christ and he losses none ( we abide) because of His does the will of the father... He knew he would beforehand as it was predetermined before the foundations of the world.

Joh 6:39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.

In Him,

Bill

God predestined Jesus Christ of Nazareth to save humanity. Those who choose Him ( free will) are" in Him" and heirs (predestined) to everlasting life in the Kingdom of God.
