are you suggesting that Catholics are in need of conversion?

That is not what I said now is it. My post was to Prodromos who said that very thing.

Did you ask him what he meant when he said it to me?????????

I just showed you in scripture where people in heaven pray for people on earth... No level of semantical gymnastics is going to change that fact.

Listen my friend......what you posted is not a command to pray for people in heaven.

That is not what that Scripture says.

There is in fact NO Scriptures that say we are to pray for people in heaven. The Bible nowhere instructs believers in Christ to pray to anyone other than God. The Bible nowhere encourages, or even mentions, believers asking individuals in heaven for their prayers.

Now all the opinions and postings are not going to change that and I really do not like to argue over things that are so clear.

IF you want to then do it. But there is NO directions from the Bible to do so.

I was just asking.

No problem at all. I just wanted it to be clear that HE pointed that at me and I in no way suggested anything.

Now to answer, do I think Catholics need to be saved YES.
To be clear, I also think that Baptists need to be saved.
Also all the AOG and Pentecostals!
And Methodists and Presperterians, and Mormons and Hindues and Buddests and every other single religionist person!

Religion does not save anyone. Only faith in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ saves anyone!

ALL PEOPLE NEED TO BE SAVED!

So do you believe in the *Holy Church*, as described in Scripture?

It was done, and added into the scriptures. Psalms shows prayers being said to angels, and the scriptures are God's Word.

I'm guessing you haven't read through the rest of the thread.
You would guess correctly.

Being a veteran of these sorts of “discussions” in the past, I know that if I read through the posts I will find far more “heat” and “smoke” than I will find “light” (from all sides). I am also familiar enough with both Catholic Apologists and practicing Catholics to know that I will receive one answer from the Catechism quoted by apologists that does not reflect the reality of the practicing laity with whom I have politely spoken about their faith.

My mother prayed to Mary constantly and never to God because her Catholic School education instilled in her a fear of God and a love and trust in “The Blessed Virgin” (and she was not alone) … my answer reflected the Catholic faith where the rubber meets the road.

Just because a few people get it wrong doesn't mean we should throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I agree, however that was not the question asked by the TITLE or in response to my answer to the question posted in the title.

The reason NOT to pray to Mary is this:
Just as it is wrong to worship an Angel, they always stopped any attempt by men to do so, it is wrong to render to ANYONE except GOD anything that belongs to God … like Prayer.

(However, this discussion was supposed to be about WHY Catholics pray to Mary, not SHOULD Catholics pray to Mary.)

WHY people pray to Mary is simple … people pray to whom they are most comfortable praying.

Why are you more comfortable talking to a dead* saint than God? That is the question worth asking.

* (I know, let’s not split semantic hairs.)

Because Saints (including Mary) are not actually dead, according to the faith. They're alive in Heaven, just like Elijah is, and the Angels.

So do you believe in the *Holy Church*, as described in Scripture?
That depends entirely on what YOU are calling the *Holy Church*.

If you as a Catholic are working to say that the Catholic Church is the Holy and the only Church of God then the answer is NO!

I believe in the Church of Jesus Christ which is what is described in the Scriptures. THAT church is a combination of all people who have trusted Christ as Saviour and has nothing to do with denominational theology!

The Church is not holy because all of her members are sinners!

Romans 3:23........"ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God".

Why do you think it’s right to pray to Mary and other saints? What Bible verse has gave you the right to that?
There is not one verse to support that religious idea. Jesus is the ONE mediator between God and man.1 tim2:5 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

According to your Catholic faith, and tradition!

But NOT according to the Bible.

There is not ONE SINGLE Bible Scripture that says Mary did not die! NO Not One!

Catholic love and live by Tradition and One tradition says that Mary died in AD 43 and another in AD 48.

You are correct but we will never see the Catholic believer come to that conviction.

Isn't the WHY actually........Because that is what they are taught from an early age in the Catholic school and Catacism!

I am an ex catholic.
I needed to read scripture to see what God said.
Mary and the saints are not omniscient

You are correct!

Always follow the Scriptures instead of the traditions of men.

Mary and the saints are dead.

The Bible tells us that Enoch and Elijah did not die. Even Jeus died.
