I'm glad you asked. I'm not for making sins illegal just because they are sins. We would have to outlaw, gossip, gluttony, lying, sex before marriage etc.

As Paul told us we should not judge those outside the church for they are judged already by God.

So I think we need to balance the ideas of laws vs laws against sin. Abortion is a great example.

The bible calls murder sin. But we as a society haven't based out law decision simply because murder is a sin. There is a legitimate secular reason outlawing murder. In our minds as believers abortion is murder. But I also believe there are legitimate secular reasons to outlaw abortion. There are a LOT of pro-life people that are not Christians. And their thoughts are not based upon the Bible but in scientific and philosophical reasoning why abortion snuff's out a life.

We can't legislate people into righteous living.

Now am I against homosexuality being presented in school education? Yes I am and I have reasons beside sin for opposing it. Am I for bakers being able to turn down a homosexual couple for a marriage cake? Yes I am. And I have secular reasons for doing so.

I hope I am making myself clear enough.

Neither Christ not Paul advocated for the writing of secular law to forbid sin.
Thanks for clearing that up.

The people who would make the government a tyranny to suppress it.
What about the people who make a government to support detestable acts?

Can’t get more real than scripture. Sola scriptura.

you do mean "your interpretation of what you judge to the relevant Scripture, based on your chosen translation"

Rights aren't handed down by people in black robes, they are decided by the masses and what they will accept.

The result of your view is the French Revolution rather than a system of laws.

In many ways, "whatever the masses want any given time" is one of the worst systems of governments.

I agree that SCOTUS doesn't hand down rights. Rights are given by our Creator and recognized in our Constitution, as interpreted by our judicial system.

You seem to think that giving a verse of Scripture and stating a conclusion is all there is to opening Scripture. All I did what to state what you seem to mean when you use the words "sola scriptura". There are literally thousands of posts on this board discussing that subject. I doubt very much that all of us would accept your definition and usage of the term. What do you mean by it.

This is critical since you seem that saying those magic words ends all discussion.
===================

To start, you might state what it is you are trying to "prove" through Scripture.
Then, you might state the verse (and related ones) and how they prove your point.
============
Do you really think that Scripture teaches us that the state should be required to accept a Christian definition of marriage and not allow any other marriage in their jurisdiction? This might happen in a theocracy like Iran.

Does it matter that many Christians accept same sex marriage. Many, many others reject homosexuality and homosexual marriage, yet they believe that the state should allow two of the same sex to marry. After all, not all Christians accept the idea of the state enforcing Christian morality.

Should the state make adultery illegal? What about the birth control pill? The Catholic Church is against both, but does NOT support the state having such laws.

Yes, yes... they are an abomination and a blight on society. How come I'm not one, too?

Or am I?

I have a different answer. My answer is "so what".

Is the argument really that some behavior is an abomination or a blight in the eyes of some because of their interpretation of Scripture. THEREFORE, the state should be able to persecute them and not allow them to marry. Really?

Even if 95% of the people believed that someone a blight or an abomination does NOT mean that we should persecute them. We do NOT have that form of government. If we did, we could just take votes and every group who a certain percentage think to a blight could be sent "home" to another country.

no it's hate and bigotry

Bull. Total bull. LGBT's aren't accepted by anything but a minority of people.
Adam Graham just resigned as mayor of his town because of the thousands of threats and property damage and harassment that began when his orientation became widespread knowledge. Death threats and harassment is not acceptance.
A third of LGBT youth have been assaulted or threatened with a weapon in school. That isn't acceptance.
LGBT kids are 4 times as likely to be physically abused by their parents.
Half of all homeless people under the age of 18 are LGBT. and having worked with the homeless i can state that they are on the streets largely because of violence from their parents.
LGBT people are 4 times as likely to be violently attacked.
REF. REF. REF. REF. REF. REF REF REF

This isn't acceptance

THIS isn't acceptance its just hate.

Your first reference talks about violence and there are. Never of quotes that talk about the violence within the community itself. We already know that. There is a lot of domestic violence and partner violence within the community.

How much of the crime is perpetrated by other LGBTQ people? It doesn't say for some of the other crimes.

We do know that when they can prove bias in the crime that LGBTQ people have a higher rate than single bias crimes than other single bias crimes. More than race or religion.

But they can't show that things like theft or robbery are significantly higher strictly due to LGBTQ bias.

And they are accepted in most places by the majority of people except in most Muslim populations or in nations that were once part of the Soviet Union.

The US has a 72% acceptance.

The Global Divide on Homosexuality Persists

There is a war within themselves that is taking place. They way they know things should be and the way things they feel. Anyone that behaves is such a fashion that is out of the norm has to wrestle with those things.

They are an abomination.

That's also the message Jews believe they received from God about pork and shellfish. But Jews aren't seeking any legal restrictions on these abominations in America.
