Warning, this is also a little rant.

Do you wish you were born in another time? I know I have made other posts about this before. I do wish I was because the current condition of earthly society is becoming a dystopia and it looks like that is here to stay. I have lived for just one decade of my adult life so far and I feel like if I was born earlier I would have had a better quality of life overall. I understand everybody saying that God put me in the time I was for good, but if this current incarnation of society is turning into a dystopia with no turning back or escape so to speak, what is the constructive or logical purpose of it?

I'm not saying that the past was completely good either, but everything today looks so grim, and we ain't seen nothing yet. I feel envy of my parents and older who are now old and got to remember the simpler and lower tech times of the past especially the late half of the 20th century.

I don't know what to do personally either, what I ever planned on doing or wanting to achieve has become useless except for the very simple pleasures. Why can't God spare the world of it's actual ending/destruction but cause a deus ex machina to save our earthly society from it's current woe? No offense, I'm not trying to be God myself.

I mean, I totally get what you're saying. Honestly, I think if we could comprehend what God was doing in our modern day world, it would blow our minds. It's all very deep; too deep for our limited human understandings to fathom. But I've seen Him working. I can't tell you why the world is so troubled, but the older I get, the more I notice God's hand in the midst of things. I keep watching Him turn tragedies and great difficulties around for the ultimate good. We like to think the world can be divided into "good things" and "bad things", but I don't think that's how God sees it. He uses everything for good in the end; even the things we call dystopian. It's all just like a machine where each piece plays a unique part, but the whole machine has the same goal. In this case, I think that goal is God's glory and the salvation of the world. It's going to be a hard road to get there, but God can see ahead - I think He knows that this will be worth the current suffering.

I do sometimes wish I lived in another time myself (I'm very partial to the 1950's haha). But I don't think I would choose to time travel even if I could. Right now, I live in the same time as some of the people I love most. I wouldn't be able to pray for them or help them if I ran away to the 50's. And as some of these people are still unsaved, I feel really grateful to be able to help them in this timeline. I honestly think, even though things are hard right now, we just need to consider the people God placed us here to help. When we give ourselves over to service, we find that that life isn't quite as bad as it seems.

It's all very hard to deal with and process and I feel you there. I think we just have to accept that God sees the big picture. Our vision is limited. His is limitless. He knows why things are like they are now. Even still, He is working hard to bring people to Him. And that's a hopeful thought.

Hope this helps a little bit, friend. Keep your chin up.

Ashley

The earth cannot be destroyed, the world, this era will end.

Shortly after the great flood when the Almighty put a sign in the sky as a garantee

that the earth would not be destroyed, by a flood.

The peoples of Babel started talking, talking unbelief,

and so they decided to build a tower up to the heavens,

in that way provide an escape route, coz you never know.

Of course their great plan was ridiculed and pulled down,

So also, and since that time there have been many attempts to build an escape route.

This era will end and make room for the world to come.

It is just that is going faster and faster like a runaway express train.

Do repentance and sit in the last carriage.

And do not fear.

Perhaps God is showing you that there is no hope in anything else than Him? Perhaps He is showing you that there is no pleasure in material things?

When I was close do death due to a massive brain tumour which pressed on half my brain, God showed me that nothing in life mattered, not my career, not the fun I had, no wealth, no friends, no family...nothing could have saved me...none of these things matter without God. If your doctor tells you, you have one week to live, ask your self, what is the only thing that truly matters in life? I can tell you in my case, the only thing that matters is my relationship with God, everything else is vanity.

Why can't God spare this world? Because it is full of sin and God cannot stand sin and He will destroy it once He saves the last person. God is Holy and good, one day there will be no evil and it will never return, isn't that worth it? And what has any value on this planet? What can save you from hell?

Jesus said that the closer He is to His return, the worse it will get. Perhaps it is God giving chance to people to repent. Look at covid, tiny dot, and yet everyone freaks out, God is showing to humanity that Him alone can save and we nor anything else can do it. Perhaps God allows us to suffer now so we repent and come to Him, rather than suffer His wrath in hell for eternity because we are sinners. ( I am not saying this is why we always suffer, ultimately we suffer because of our own sin, God owns us nothing, we all belonged to hell yesterday, but God in His love chose to show His mercy and forgiveness, but one day, He will also shows His righteous wrath).

Why? All things work to the good for the elect and every sinful elect receives the perfect discipline, Heb 12:5-11, he needs to become heaven ready and, when he is heaven ready, away he goes!!!

The perfection of this system does not depend upon the times.

I feel envy of my parents and older who are now old and got to remember the simpler and lower tech times of the past especially the late half of the 20th century.

I'm female, so it would be dangerous for me to have lived in an earlier time. I've received medical care on several occasions that was not available 100 years ago. 150 years ago, I would not have been able to vote in many US states. 200 years ago, I would not have been able to own property in many US states. So, it might be fun to visit the past for a day, but I wouldn't dare live there. A century or two in the future -- now, that might be fun to try.

If "the late half of the 20th century" is the time in the past that you're yearning for, then maybe I was "born in another time". I was born in the early 1960s. It was exciting in some ways to live through the social upheavals of the 1960s and 1970s, but I wouldn't really want to return to that. Except that I miss my bell bottoms and psychedelic posters. :)

I was born in the 50s, and I would not want to have been born any earlier. Black people can't mess with time travel.

Nor would I want to have been born any later. Boomers had reason to expect a bright future...we though we would fix the world. We were wrong, we underperformed compared to our parents, but I'd rather have a hopeful youth than today's "doomer" generation.

I just pray my health holds out to the day I finally die. I don't want to be younger, I just want to be healthy.

As a woman, that has opinions, I would have suffered many, many lashings in the hands of men. So I'm glad I was born in 1960.

That still sounds sad to me even if God is supposed to be all-loving. I don't want to lose sight of having friends and family. I just want it renewed. That's the point of this thread.

I don't mind being born in the 1990s. As a kid I got to experience a lot of quality child programming. As a teenager we were really the first to come into age with social media. YouTube was new and exciting. Thanks to the internet I am much wiser and knowledgeable now than I probably would be if I was born into a previous generation.

While it would be cool to see the past, I think we also tend to glamorize it. I'd hate to be born during the late 19th century and early 20th century. A lot of those men were turned into cannon fodder during WW1. While I lived through some wars, service was voluntarily. As someone in my early 30s I doubt I'll ever have to face the draft. While my father was a little too young to experience the fear of being enlisted during the Vietnam years, I'd have to have to go through that.

I love being an X'er. We're the last generation that experienced a modicum of innocence and simplicity. We used Sir and Ma'am. Men tipped their hats and covered their mouths when women were present. Both were better attired and respectful towards one another. We spent our days outside instead of planted in front a television or computer.

We were the guinea pigs for MTV, video games and the Internet and we survived. We're more entrepreneurial, less compliant, and forward thinking. We're not pessimists or optimists we're realists. We dominate the digital space creatively and hold more cryptocurrency than any group beyond the obvious. We're ready for the 4th revolution.

I used to wish I'd been born in the horse-and-buggy days until I realized that not everyone owned a horse. Most of them were the starving and flea-infested serfs of the overlords...

I think I would have had a more fun childhood if I had been born about ten years later than I was — r/c drone tech, video games, smartphones etc would have blown my mind when I was a kid saving up quarters to buy styrofoam gliders and sneaking over to the family computer at night to log onto AIM — but it’s only getting harder to build wealth from the bottom in this economy, and I’d hate to be set ten years back.

It might be cool to have been born in the early 1900s. Just to experience the Roaring 20s as a young adult. It was the era of jazz; great literature (F. Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Faulkner at their peaks; Steinbeck, T.S. Eliot, Virginia Woolf, Gertrude Stein, and many more); flapper girls; nightclubs that ignore Prohibition; Art Deco architecture and design; the beginning of radio broadcasting; movies with sound; and uber-cool cars. Like a 1929 Duesenberg roadster:

duesenberg.jpg

Of course, most of the fun ended after the '29 stock market crash ushered in the Great Depression. But it was a wild ride while it lasted.

I do wish I were born in another time. If someone had predicted to me this Clown World just ten years ago, I would have bet every dollar I had that it was just not possible in my lifetime, but here it is. I do think the dystopia is here to stay, primarily because of digital technologies which will allow a level of control by humans over other humans never before possible. I'm glad I'm old, I sometimes wish I were older. I don't want to experience how hellish it's likely going to get.
I don't know what to do personally either, what I ever planned on doing or wanting to achieve has become useless except for the very simple pleasures.
You need to follow Christ. He allows a way to be in this world but not of this world. Your treasures can be stored elsewhere, where they will not be destroyed.
Why can't God spare the world of it's actual ending/destruction but cause a deus ex machina to save our earthly society from it's current woe? No offense, I'm not trying to be God myself.
The deus ex machina is coming. Someday. Patience is a virtue. :)

Well, I'm not old, that is why I'm upset. I was born in '91, I wish I was born at least 20 years before that instead.

I know as Christians, you are supposed to be excited because at least it means you'll be in Heaven, but I don't want to die here yet. I just wish there was a way it could still get better down here.

The only possible other cope is wishing the wronged and angered enacted collective vengeance against the people who are INTENTLY making this a dystopia.
