In Matt 5:44 Jesus says to “love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you “ and 1Cor 13:5 says love not hold a record of wrongdoing/does not take account of the evil deeds , or something like that depending on what version you read. But why if God puts people into eternal torment is He not bound by his own word , why does he ask us to do what even he is not willing to do?

God does not put people in eternal torment. God eliminates sin and sinners at His Second Coming once and for all. Sinners/unsaved are not burned forever, the flame goes out and ashes they will become. There are many verses people misunderstand. I'm a bit short for time right now but I will edit this post to supply scripture references when I have more time.

why does he ask us to do what even he is not willing to do?
He has been doing so all along, and more than any of us
ever have, or ever will. If it was ordained that there would be
a fullness and an end, so be it. God doesn't stop loving.
As to ect, that is flesh. One man's invention, another man's
obsession. The opposite of eternal life is death, not torture.

"why if God puts people into eternal torment ". God had no hand in this. Every person every falling angel made a free choice. No in lost because they didn't know the truth. Christ said if you were blind you would have no sin. You say you see your sin remains. Most are blind.

He became His creation and took the sin of the world.. thats what He did.. no man, nothing in all creation did this.

If God took away the sin of the world then why does he hold sin against anyone?

If God wants something or someone to burn without burning to ashes He can and has done that in the past.
Daniel 3:23-25
(23) And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
(24) Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
(25) He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
Exodus 3:2-3
(2) And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
(3) And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

You might be surprised what you will find when you read the rest of the Bible
EOB Matthew:25:46 When he will answer them, saying: ‘Amen, I tell you: as much as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 These [ones on the left] will go away into eternal [αἰώνιος/aionios] punishment, [κόλασις/kolasis] but the righteous into eternal [αἰώνιος/aionios] life.”
Greek has been the language of the Eastern Greek Orthodox church since its inception, 2000 years +/- ago. Who better than the team of native Greek speaking scholars, who translated the Eastern Greek Orthodox Bible [EOB] know the correct meaning of the Greek words in the N.T.?
Link to EOB online;
The New Testament ( The Eastern-Greek Orthodox Bible) : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
…..The Greek word “kolasis” occurs only twice in the N.T., First occurrence Matt 25:46, the second occurrence is 1 John 4:18.

EOB 1 John 4:18 here is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear, because fear is connected with punishment.[ κόλασις/kolasis] But the one who fears is not yet perfect in love.
Note the native Greek speaking Eastern Orthodox Greek scholars who translated the EOB translated “aionios” as “eternal,” NOT age.
The Greek word “kolasis” translated “punishment” in Matt 25:46. Some folks claim “kolasis” really means “prune” or “correction” but according to the EOB Greek scholars it means “punishment.” In 1 John 4:18 there is no correction, the one with “kolasis” is not made perfect.

True, but the answer I provided was based on the question the OP asked "why if God puts people into eternal torment" which has nothing to with Jesus preserving His people under persecution.

God bless.

You do realize that Christ died to redeem His enemies, right? The door has been opened and the shackles destroyed, those who remain in bondage do so because they hate Christ not because He hates them.

What? Have you never read Luke 22 where Jesus tells His disciples before sending them out on the road to preach The Gospel, to go BUY A SWORD?

That doesn't mean He meant His servants to just bow down to our enemies, now does it?

The case about turning the other cheek is about Christ's servants when preaching The Gospel, the unbelieving slap you on the cheek. In that case, offer them the other cheek also.

But if you are walking down the road, and a murderer is coming at you with a knife, then you have the GOD GIVEN RIGHT to defend yourself, and thus Jesus commanded them to go buy a sword for those who did not have one.

It's just a fact of this world, to love one's enemies sometimes it requires a simple rebuke, other times it requires infantry and aircraft in war, the goal with both in order to bring peace. When the U.S. finally took Japan during WWII, the Japanese civilian leadership thanked general MacArthur for setting up a democratic style government in Japan instead of the old Japanese militarist style government it had had. And thus Japan flourished as a peaceful and prosperous nation after that.
