So, just what was the Buffalo shooter's political ideology? [in his own words]

What the Buffalo Shooter's Alleged Manifesto Actually Says

“When I was 12 I was deep into communist ideology, talk to anyone from my old highschool and ask about me and you will hear that. From age 15 to 18 however, I consistently moved farther to the right. On the political compass I fall in the mild-moderate authoritarian left category, and I would prefer to be called a populist.

But you can call me an ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist if you want, I wouldn’t disagree with you.” He also repeatedly attacks capitalists, and rejected the conservative label because, he wrote, “conservativism is corporatism in disguise, I want no part of it.”

Sounds like a confused nut.
Aren't they all?

Still, it's more than a little fascinating the number of times the media attempts to portray one after another as someone holding extreme right-wing ideology ... only for us to soon discover a poisoning left-wing ideological basis instead.

Which is the bit he wrote about whites being replaced?

My own internet search brings up an AP article (and a long list of derivatives therefrom) talking about replacement theory ... but no actual quotes about that from the shooter or his manifesto. Instead, the
AP describes it as "a racist screed supposedly posted online"

Have you seen it?

The shooter wrote that his purpose was to "spread awareness that immigrants to the United States are supplanting the white population." (Replacement Theory)

When he answered the question “What do you want?" He wrote the 14 words "We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children." This 14 word phrase is commonly used by neo-Nazis and white supremacists worldwide and embodies the white supremacist belief that the white race will not survive unless immediate action is taken. (Once again, Replacement theory)

Both of the above examples from the shooter's manifesto are extreme right-wing ideologies.

More correctly, they are Nazi ideologies ... national "socialism" ... a genuine socialist ideology.

Note again that the shooter self-described as an adherent of left-wing ideology. Nazis and communists have a lot in common, in particular, a love for large oppressive tyrannical government.

Only in the mind of some parts of the modern alt-right is Naziism left wing.

The rest of the world recognises it as a right wing ideology that borrowed the word "socialist" as a publicity stunt.

Were the Nazis Socialists?

Nazism is a far right ideology.

He can describe himself any way he wants, but he's still a rightwing extremist and will always be remembered as one.

In the sense of a political compass, Communism and Nazism are not just closely allied, they are identical in most respects:

Internet trolling
Another similarity is the use of memes and Internet humor to confuse and troll readers and those that may attempt to report on the manifesto.

In the Buffalo manifesto, the writer attempts to continue the long-running trolling of journalists in which one claims that pictures of comedian Sam Hyde are images of the mass shooters or persons connected to violent events.

Not to mention the fact that much of the manifesto is plagiarized.

rejected the conservative label because, he wrote, “conservativism is corporatism in disguise, I want no part of it.”

This is a direct quote of the Christchurch manifesto.

But you can call me an ethno-nationalist eco-fascist national socialist if you want

Christchurch manifesto:
What are your views?

I am an Ethno-nationalist Eco-fascist.

Anything to distract from the fact that the boy is a white supremacist and a mass-murdering terrorist, who likely parroted stuff heard on Fox News in his manifesto. But ya, let's call him a socialist.
Honestly, from what I've seen, he probably wasn't parroting Fox News. There are some pretty nasty cesspits of hatred that exist on the internet, and while they occasionally bubble up on Fox (most notably in relation to this, the idea of "White replacement," which Tucker Carlson has promoted at times), Fox isn't the originator of those ideas. Based on the bits and pieces of his manifesto that I've been able to read, he most likely comes out of one of those cesspits, which don't really conform to any sense of "left wing" or "right wing" ideology - they pull elements of both, then mix them with a special blend of hatred that's all their own.

Trying to blame one side or the other for this is just pointless and petty.

Indeed, it is an impressive chart. The vertical axis charts freedom versus tyranny/authoritarianism while the horizontal axis charts socialism versus corporatism.

The shooter, in his own words, much preferred socialism to corporatism and also preferred a heavy dose of authoritarianism, though that was apparently diminished somewhat from his earlier years when he straight-up preferred communism.

Indeed, it is an impressive chart.

Not for the reasons you think.

The vertical axis charts freedom versus tyranny/authoritarianism while the horizontal axis charts socialism versus corporatism.

The vertical axis charts anarchy vs tyranny, with anarchy mislabelled as "freedom". It's right wing gaslighting, because, amongst other ironies, there's no police at the top of that graph, they have been completely defunded. Except for the rich, obviously.

I could care less about his so-called political affiliations. What I do care about is why he massacred ten innocent people. And that was because he had been convinced that there is a politically motivated move to replace his 'Anglo American' culture (read 'white') with one that he has been convinced is foreign and less acceptable. And needs to be violently resisted.

Those who propogate nonsense like this that invariably leads to tragedies like this - and will lead to more of the same, should hang their heads in shame.

Both of the above examples from the shooter's manifesto are extreme right-wing ideologies.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ublicans-agree-with-great-replacement-theory/

It was about a year ago when Fox News’s Tucker Carlson first eagerly ripped off the mask.

“I know that the left and all the little gatekeepers on Twitter become literally hysterical if you use the term ‘replacement,’ if you suggest for the Democratic Party is trying to replace the current electorate, the voters now casting ballots, with new people, more obedient voters from the Third World,” he said in April 2021. “But they become hysterical because that’s what’s happening, actually.”

This was an explicit evocation of a line of argument, once confined to the right-wing, white nationalist fringe, called “great replacement theory.” The idea, as Carlson makes clear, is not simply that immigration to the United States could reshape American politics but that some cadre of elites is intentionally encouraging that to happen. That there was a sinister plan to literally “replace” native-born Americans with immigrants.

Is it really that "extreme" anymore? (the theory, not the killer's actions)
