Eight children contracted COVID-19 and 75 were quarantined after a family knowingly sent their infected child to a Corte Madera school and failed to tell anyone, officials said Friday.

The parents were told to keep both children home and to notify the school, Geithman said. Instead, they told no one and sent their children to school on Nov. 9-10, 12 and Nov. 15-18, he said. Schools were closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.

The staff spent the morning of Nov. 19 testing two classes, or about 50 children, who were then all advised to go into modified quarantine over the 10 days of the Thanksgiving break. A third class of an additional 25 students was added to the modified quarantine later after an additional positive case was found there.

The modified quarantine meant the students were not allowed to travel, attend family gatherings or group activities during the holiday week.

Geithman said the district will take “corrective action” against the parents. He declined to say what that might include, citing confidentiality. He said the two siblings would not be penalized in any way.

“These are elementary school students who were sent to school by their parents,” he said. “They should face no consequences.”

Hi @essentialsaltes

Man, people are just sick!! What were the parents thinking? Does the school administration suppose that this was absolutely some act of defiance regarding Covid? These parents are so entitled that they don't give a rats behind about the consequences of their actions. I think they should at least bear the costs of all the additional testing and quarantine costs and cleaning that the school surely had to do. They should both get 6 months in jail and hopefully there are some loving relatives that will take the children in temporarily until the parents have 'learned the lesson'.

God bless,
Ted

Side note.... this is in one of the wealthiest liberal elite covid compliant counties in the USA.

While it is wealthy and liberal, Marin County is also home to granola-eating back to nature flower people, and there have been problems with measles vaccination rates.

So if we ever learn more about the family, it'll be interesting to see if they look more like the antivaxxers of 10 years ago, or the current COVID crop.

I grew up there and go back every year (which is my liberal elite origin story). The hippies were hounded out ages ago.

Hi @durangodawood

Good, then the parents should have plenty of money to pay back the costs to the school and if they don't have any nearby loving relatives, then they can afford to pay someone to take care of their children while they are incarcerated for 6 months.

Obviously these two aren't a part of that 'covid compliant' group.

God bless,
Ted

The parents ought to face some consequences.

This is a major problem, to begin with, why are parents being trusted to notify the school about something so important to the community?

It seems to me that the town/city or county should be coordinating with testers, clinics, doctors to report positive cases so the town/city or county authority can notify the organizations/schools that need to know and can start contact tracing.

My grandson, the 6 yr old, caught covid at school about a month ago. His parents weren't left to contact the school the county took care of that.

Suppose some one who caught this virus at school died. How would they justify their actions?
It would be murder 1. Since they know COVID-19 can be a death sentence. Also attempted murder of students and teachers. Should be added. End the end, scare them straight. And plea- deal it down.
