When I understood myself to not be a Christian, I had a career as a computer programmer. On one job, I had a very interesting cubemate named Tom. He had grown up as a military brat, had lived in Okinawa and Germany, and spoke fluent German. He had a bachelor's degree and background in medical research before he became a programmer. He and I got along well; he also seemed to not be a Christian. Though I did not understand myself to be a Christian, I had believed in the gospel of Christ since sixth grade. I did not believe in the theory of evolution but Tom did. This caused one or more major discussions between him and I. At the time, I knew few technical specifics of the creation/evolution controversy. Since then, I have learned a fair amount and feel I could go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with him or any evolutionist.

But my main point here is to respond to a statement Tom made on one or more occasions. He said, "No one's opinion matters but the man who signs your paycheck." While I do not now agree with that, I did agree with it for all practical purposes back then. I had even said to a Christian friend at a Bible study, "I can't predict how your relationship with God is going to be tomorrow. But I can predict you will be at work at 8 AM." Compelling worldly matters dominated my life, as they do many people's.

Now that I understand myself to be a Christian, I would counter that statement of Tom's with: "No one's opinion matters but the God Who puts breath in your nostrils."

He who pays the piper calls the tune.

Sadly many think they call their own tune. God patiently waits for those who might value truth to seek him.

Those who reject truth (or even worse, hold the truth in unrighteousness), may find pleasure for a season. However, truth cannot be denied forever.

Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

I've said something similar, "When you're dead, all that matters is what God thinks."

Yes, we humans are only scared of the big and strong boss… I think Jesus says consider the least of these, because they are me.
