The New Testament mentions many times the importance of being filled with the Spirit, but what does it mean, and what are practical ways to achieve it? How can I know if I'm filled with the Spirit or not?
I don't think anyone can tell you how to be filled with the Spirit, but the instruction is very clear. The New Testament mentions many times the importance of being filled with the Spirit, but what does it mean, and what are practical ways to achieve it? How can I know if I'm filled with the Spirit or not?
Jesus Christ of Nazareth said He and His Father will make their Home in us. So all true belivers walk in His Spirit daily. It is when we " quench" and or "greieve" Him that His work in us subsides. The fruits of the Holy Spirit is how we know. The New Testament mentions many times the importance of being filled with the Spirit, but what does it mean, and what are practical ways to achieve it? Christianity is about believing. While we have faith that Jesus died and rose again for our sins we are saved. Sin separates us from God, we grieve the Holy Spirit when we desire sin more than Him. To restore our relationship with God, we should be consistently moving away from sin, and towards God.Some follow-up questions:

- How can we know if we have quenched or grieved the Holy Spirit?
- How can we stop quenching/grieving the Holy Spirit and restore the relationship with Him?
How can we stop quenching/grieving the Holy Spirit and restore the relationship with Him?
Being born of the Spirit when you believe on Jesus, is not the same as being filled with the Spirit, which is a secondary experience, just as the scriptures illustrate. We don't achieve it, He achieves it in us.
If you have believed on Jesus to the saving of your soul, Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit to reside with you already.
Jesus said his Father would give the Holy Spirit to those who ask

Millions of people are born of the Spirit but have no clue how to walk in the Spirit. Instead, they are infantile, following after man, ie. denominations, pastors, priests, liturgies, traditions etc. all of which get in the way of hearing what the Spirit says to us.I mean, isn't it implied that one born of the Spirit would walk in the Spirit?
No, Jesus never said that.Being filled by the Spirit is, I believe, predicated upon being in submission to him, surrendered to his will and way throughout every day (Romans 6:13-22; Romans 8:14; Romans 12:1; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:6). When one is living before God in humble yieldedness to Him, the Spirit moves to fill the believer with himself, conforming the believer to the Person of Christ, transforming their desires, thinking and conduct, producing in them the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 5:9).
No, Jesus never said that.
Here's what Jesus said.-
Lk11v9“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 11If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? 12Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
As Jesus said, the Father will give the Spirit to those who ask, not those who have sorted their lives out.
So no, most born again believers do not walk in the spirit, they walk in the flesh, religion, tradition, all of which blinds them to the leading of the Holy Spirit. They are saved but have little or no reward.
As Jesus said, the Father will give the Spirit to those who ask, not those who have sorted their lives out
