So how does this sound to you: "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art into me, and I into thee, that they also may be one into us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. Why do you think that every single English translation, from the earliest to the most recent, has the word "in"?

It sounds awkward to replace the English word with "into", which is why you stand alone in your (mis)translation.

If you look at the BDAG closely, you are giving an overall use of the Greek and the various ways it is translated according to context is given further down, but John 3:16 is not one verse listed as an example. You have quoted the Jay P. Green Literal Translation, translated by that one individual. To translate as "into" is just not good English and it leaves one scratching their head over the meaning. If you go to biblegateway you can check the verse in all their translations and if I did not overlook one, you'll not find one instance of this being translated as "into". I have access to 5 Greek-English Interlinear New Testaments and only one translates in the literal gloss as "into", but when it is then written in their literal English, it is "in", or "on" in v18. I am always cautious when someone cherry picks a translation to make a point of doctrine.

Different Greek word in John Seventeen. That word is ἐν and it means in. You can't be in Christ unless you believe into Him.
We are the Body of Christ, the Temple of God. He is the vine we are the branches, without Him we can do nothing. Him in us we in Him that the world may believe.

It is great English because that is what we are suppose to do. One would only think it is poor English because the concept is foreign to them.

Why do you think it confuses the meaning? To me it enlightens the meaning that through Christ we enter into the inner life of the Trinity, which is expounded upon later in the Gospel. It gives the idea of a motion, where you move out of something into something else, which is accurate to Christian experience.

I think you should stop using the King James, for example your thinking that 2 Timothy 2:15 refers to studying. Here are more accurate translations...

"Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching the message of truth accurately." NET 2.1

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." NIV

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth." NRSV

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a worker who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth." NASB

" Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth." ESV

It's not a good idea to portray yourself as a qualified translator when you're clearly putting your own spin on God's Word.

The fact that many translations remove "study to show thyself approved" is further indication that translators have taken great liberty with the word of God. Many infer that man can't study the Bible on his own, when scripture says otherwise.

The KJV translates Strong's G4704 in the following manner: endeavour (3x), do diligence (2x), be diligent (2x), give diligence (1x), be forward (1x), labour (1x), study (1x).

Why is this particular verse translated as study? Because the subject of the verse is the word of truth. The action here is rightly dividing.

In the closing statement of this passage (verses 11-19), it is made clear that these words are set in stone, having His seal: The Lord knows who are His and anyone that professes Christ should depart from iniquity (a call to repentance, the newness of life that should be for a professed Christian). No one is crafty or clever, the Lord knows.

Once again the word you have translated to into is not the same as the words shared in the OP. It is ἐν.
One can not be in Christ and He in us unless we Believe into Him in the first place.
John 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.

I was being sarcastic. It points out the fact that amateur "translators" put their own spin on Scripture. There is no direct correspondence between Koine Greek (or Hebrew or Aramaic) and English. We have well-qualified translators that convert the early languages into our own, and it's never as simple as a word-for-word, direct correspondence.

"Believe into Him" means zilch. How does this sound: John 14:20 "At that day ye shall know that I am into my Father, and ye into me, and I into you" ?

Or "one can not be into Christ and He into us unless we Believe into Him into the first place."

"Into" and "in" are entirely different words.

I accept the overwhelming proof of vocabulary and meaning determined by serious, qualified translators over unqualified people who post personal interpretations.
