Tough and determined little girl though.

Especially since she wanted to keep running with a broken clavicle and a concussion! I think her dad was right to carry her the rest of the way!

OK. One more reason to support deer hunting. My reason is that my son got Lyme's Disease. I don't mind a deer or two around, but I want the population to be on the lower side.

The deer population in Michigan is just insane---there isn't a week goes by but what I see at least five or six of them lying dead in roadside ditches. I was talking to an anti-hunter, one of those people who just abhors the idea of a wild animal being shot. I mentioned that we have too many deer in the state right now; they're becoming diseased because there isn't enough forage for all of them, and come winter, a lot of them are going to starve to death, so it's really cruel, in a way, to tighten up on hunting them.

Didn't convince her, though. She said, "There's got to be another way of controlling the deer population without hunting and killing the poor things!" And I said, "Well, yeah, there is a way---we could re-introduce large packs of Canadian timber wolves to run them down and eat them. Since we killed all the wolves off a hundred years or so ago, deer have no natural predators any more, outside of man." She looked horrified and said, "But wolves would eat more than just deer!!! They'd carry off cattle, sheep, pets, even children!!!" And I shrugged and said, "Well, which would you rather have? It's not like you can call Planned Parenthood and sign all the deer up for birth control!"

From what I think I have been told > if a football player gets a concussion and goes right back into the game, he can die or suffer major brain damage. Also, even if children do not get obvious concussions during football activities, the lesser banging around can add up to more and more damage.

So, if there is a concussion, yes a person needs to stop everything . . . no activity, at all, I understand, so the brain can recover. So, it likely was wise that the father carried his girl.

One time, I caught my bike handle on a mailbox and it twisted my bike so I fell backward on the road, and my head was snapped like a whip against the asphalt. And I heard a little zinging ring in my head. But . . . I had a helmet on, I was not knocked out. I see I could have been killed if my head had whipped like that and hit the road without a helmet.

Even though I was not knocked out, I stayed still and I could sense I was stunned some. So, I waited a while and prayed, then I tested carefully how well I could balance and steer the bike. I went for a way easily until I got more comfortable that I was all right.

And my lady friend's medical person says you can get a concussion, even if you are not knocked out and even if you remember the hitting of your head. Possibly, he means that less hard hits can add up in their effect.

I suspect that your anti-hunter friend would like to see Planned Parenthood get a massive permanent Federal grant to provide contraception for deer. I can just see it. Having to hire hunters to give all of the deer their monthly shots. It would be far easier just to shoot them once and have some venison.

A friend's kid once ran out of venison and had to buy some beef. Daughter said the venison tasted odd, not really being a beef eater before.
