1) Trump is gone.

2) The vaccine has been available for Biden's entire term.

3) The US is 41st in having its citizens fully vaccinated.

4) Over 95% of COVID deaths are among the unvaccinated.

5) Hospitals are under emergency situations in many states, denying treatment to many non-COVID patients.

6) 25% of the country refuses to be vaccinated, and the citizens in the states with low vaccination rates continue to die in large numbers, and to occupy almost all the ICU beds.

CONCLUSION
Biden isn't doing enough to get citizens vaccinated. Other leaders and countries failed last year, some as badly as we did. HOWEVER, their vaccination rates are now much higher than ours. Leaders all over the world have figured this out. Biden and the US are failing badly.

A) Masks are a short term minor help. The issue is vaccinations.

B) Biden has a choice. He can replicate Reagan's attitude toward AIDs; after all it is primarily Republicans and their children who are dying. Or, he can bite the bullet and take the political consequences for enforcing much stronger policies nationwide, As Obama did with the passage of Obamacare.

C) Biden apparently has a higher priority for his $6T or so of his social agenda (the stimulus, the physical infrastructure bill, and the $3.5T omnibus bill).
EXAMPLE: OSHA is yet to issue its COVID rule.

======================
IN MY OPINION, THE PRIORITIES SHOULD BE
1) Keeping the government running and the debt ceiling approved
2) COVID
3) Voting rights
4) The bipartisan infrastructure bill (highway funds will end on September 30.
5) The $1T-$6T Sanders set of priorities.

I think he’d be shooting himself in the foot to enforce stronger mandates. Already, people are balking and cheesed off at being forced to be vaccinated against something they may have already caught with a 98-99% survivability rate, just to keep their jobs and put food on the table.

Yes, stronger actions might hurt Biden politically. CLEARLY, he had made that determination. Otherwise, stronger actions would have already been taken.

Also, let us understand the reality. Biden's loss of potential votes in Republican districts shouldn't determine his actions.

Imho stronger actions would be extreme, and draconian. Vaccine mandates are unethical. So is frightening people away from vaccination, if they would really benefit from it. It needs to be a personal choice. The amount of control and compliance with this thing is weird. And completely unnecessary.

By all means, make the vaccine available. And let people know how and where to get it. But the sheer level of control, tracking, and fear-mongering from media and politicians has been concerning, and at this point, for me, nauseating. Especially as they, miraculously, still can’t tell us for sure where it came from. Please.

???

The leaders in 40 other countries have figured out that they need to do more than plead with the public to get vaccinated.

My guess is that there were those in every one of those 40 countries who didn't want to be vaccinated. If Portugal can have 85% of its citizens fully vaccinated, then just PERHAPS the US might do better.

Biden has been doing a lot trying to get Americans vaccinated. The problem isn't the President not making vaccinations available.

The problem is that Americans are idiots. And that people are spewing false information about the success rate of the COVID vaccine.

Just like there were "emmy winners" stating last year that masks did nothing. So a majority of Americans went everywhere without their masks like the idiots that they are. Then we wondered why so many people died ,ast year. It's no different just this time there's a vaccine. But, it might make your privates fall off or cause you to grow two heads or something. I mean, really?

I'm sorry, I'm half American But when it comes to this pandemic, Americans are being idiots.

When the President keeps saying that our vaccinations are safe and will help end the pandemic then its up to us his fellow Americans to get vaccinated. Otherwise this pandemic may never end.

That's like blaming Queen for COVID deaths when she has in fact, been doing a lot to try to get this pandemic under control. It's the people not getting vaccinated that's to blame not the queen or any other leader.

So, you point is the people have every right to get sick and deny hospital treatment to others as they fill up the hospitals. I STRONGLY disagree, as do the citizens in at least 40 other countries and many of the US states.

Tough cookies. If everyone got vaccinated, the pandemic would be over. The pandemic is optional at this point.

The Pro-Covid crowd is choosing to keep the pandemic going.

I'm not sure what more you think the federal government can do.

Biden can't account for crazy.

He is enterprising though, and will likely, through his enactment and encouragement of vaccine mandates ... get more Americans vaccinated.

Aside from state the facts, what more can the president do? He cannot force Americans to get vaccinated that's unconstitutional right? So aside from stating the facts and success rate of the covid vaccine and state what's Killing people right now what can the president do?

Large portions of Americans simply don't trust the government or professionals.....and there are plenty of others out there willing to profit off sowing doubt. Imagine how the polio vaccine campaign of the 1950's would go today....

This is a deeper issue than just the current administration and something not easily fixed. The U.S. has this rather large anti-science/anti-government/wingnut fringe that keeps screwing things up for everyone else.

Heck, the fact the U.S. is still behind the rest of wealthy nations when it comes to universal healthcare speaks volumes.

It's a cultural issue and it's going to take a long while to sort out, if it ever does.

There just isn't the political will to do much more about COVID-19 in the US. It's due to limits of political ideology and moral imagination on the part of the American public.

Even I have become resigned to the fact that COVID-19 is going to become endemic in the US.

It's not really about an anti-science attitude, but the place that libertarian and individualistic ideals have in the American imagination. Many Americans really resent being told what to do, especially if it's "for their own good".

Polio is a bit more more physically disfiguring. I'd wager that appearance conscious Americans would respond somewhat differently.

Smallpox too ...

What sort of stronger policy should he do concerning this?

IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE STEPS ALREADY TAKEN AND A COUPLE OF MORE STEPS
1) The vaccination rates for the military should be near 100% by November 1st. The list of those being honorably discharged should be forwarded to the WH. The percentages should be made public every week (as we do with states).
2) The vaccination rates for federal employees should be near 100% by November 1st. The percentage should forwarded and made public each week.
3) The vaccination rates for federal contractors should be near 100% by November 1st, with the percentages reported each week.
4) The OSHA rule for companies with over 100 employees should be issued by October 1st, with the first shot required by November 1st, with percentages reported.
5) The CMS rule for hospitals, nursing homes and other health facilities should be published by October 1st, with zero Medicare funding for procedures after November 1st for non-complying facilities. There should be weekly reporting. [I would note that the feds allowed less time to hospitals when the mandate was desegregation].
6) There should be a policy with regard to companies who employ first responders similar to those for hospitals. All federal funding should stop one month are issuing the rule.
7) There should be a federal list of key retail companies. Any company that does not mandate employee
vaccination should be removed from the list of vendors that the federal government can buy from. This certainly would include grocery stores, and online retailers like Amazon.com, Walmart.com and Target.com.
8) Send lots more federal emergency teams to cities that are in need, and who are taking various steps to prevent COVID.

ADDITIONAL ISSUES
9) States that have low vaccination rates should be removed from consideration of various federal grants.
10) States and local governments (including schools) implementing various steps to prevent COVID should be given grants to help offset the cost of their efforts.
===========================
This is just a sample of possible steps. Alternatively, Biden could simply do nothing in the states that have low rates, and just focus on regarding those states that are cooperating with federal efforts.

Seems a bit wild just for the COV but interesting nonetheless.
