The explosion was so great it may have also been responsible for leveling the walls of Jericho.

A team of archeologists believe they have uncovered evidence of the traumatic events that led to the destruction of Sodom. The findings, published in Nature Scientific Reports, suggest that the destruction was wrought by a space rock that hurtled through the atmosphere and exploded over the city, creating an airburst.

The research was conducted at Tall el-Hammam, a site believed to be the biblical Sodom, over a 15-year period. Daily Caller reports that the team identified a five-foot layer of charcoal, ash, melted bricks and melted pottery. To melt building materials, the heat must have exceeded 2,000 degrees Celsius. As there were no means to artificially generate such tremendous temperature in that era, experts began to look for natural explanations.

Scripture describes it raining fire and brimstone. It doesn't describe the blinding flash or loud explosion of an airburst meteor.
It could of been their version of fire and brimstone. Point is, it happened.

I tend to take the bible literally, so I believe Genesis 19:24. "Then the Lord rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the Lord out of the heavens."

I grow tired of you coming over to OBOB and sniping. You do know you are in OBOB?

I havent noticed any such pattern. How is prodromos "sniping" in this thread? I mean, he challenged the quoted source, not Michie? Besides, I kind of agree with him that any "God of the gaps" reasoning only aims at diminishing the true wonders of the Lord. The reasoning usually belong to atheists and disbelievers...

I'm not at all against questioning 'the god of the gaps' thinking. If that's really what's going on here. Just that I have noticed a pattern from this one particular poster, who is not at all afraid to post whatever he wants in a place where he is a guest, often arguing with Catholics. We Catholics are capable enough of arguing with each other.

My comment is with the Nature Scientific Reports article which isn't a Catholic publication AFAIK. I also disagree with Michie's assessment, but again I don't believe Michie was necessarily presenting Catholic teaching on the subject.
I have stepped over the line in the past and I do apologise for that. I fall somewhere on the spectrum of autism which often causes me to lack for a filter of any kind. It annoys my wife to no end and I am incredibly blessed that she has stuck with me. You may also notice me jumping into the fray to defend Catholicism against some of the ridiculous caricatures that get posted on this forum at times. I don't mean to cause offence but realise I often do, and for that I am sorry.

I didn’t take offense. Some things are just not worth arguing about imo.

Well, I've personally seen Him manipulate the elements and the forces of nature, weather, etc, so this really is not that big of a deal to me, other than just maybe being interesting a little bit maybe...

God Bless!

God oftentimes chooses to use what's already there in nature or in the natural world or in the world around us to accomplish His will/goals/means/ends, etc, so why not the cosmos or in space also, etc...?

And I think He also wanted to send a message also, with the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, because He didn't just destroy it, but He "nuked" it basically, etc... I'm sure it's destruction was talked about all around after that, etc... Whether he used an meteorite/asteroid to do it, who knows, but He could have, etc...

He could have kind of "grabbed" that asteroid and directed it and guided it and changed and altered or otherwise manipulated it's course, etc, if that's the way it really happened, etc, not saying it is, just saying He (God), (God the Spirit), could have, etc...

God Bless!
