They rejected the plan, but it adds more context to researching the origins of the virus.

"Documents published by a scientist group probing Covid-19’s origins reveal that controversial US non-profit EcoHealth Alliance had sought $14 million in 2018 for a project that would expose Chinese bats to altered coronaviruses.
Some 18 months before the first Covid cases appeared, the three-and-a-half year study had planned to release skin-penetrating particles containing “novel chimeric spike proteins” from bat coronaviruses into bat caves in China’s Yunnan province. The goal was to study and prevent transmission to humans.

The proposal, titled ‘Project Defuse’, was submitted by EcoHealth Alliance for funding consideration as part of an initiative aimed at preventing emerging pathogen threats by the US Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). It was ultimately rejected over safety concerns.

Spike proteins aren't viruses. This just looks like more dishonest misinformation.

I think this is valid, though technically DARPA could be considered to have considered any proposals that were submitted to them and they have no control over what lands on their desk (well, they do, I suppose, have channels established and a limited # of submittees with access to those channels)

So I'm more curious about who launched it to land on their desk, "EcoHealth Alliance"

Just because they didn't get DARPA funding to do it doesn't mean they didn't actually do it.

So we don't just need a smoking gun, we also need a dead body, and one that is certainly buried or incinerated by the Chinese Communists?

But for the record, I was looking for a better way to describe the new findings that is also succinct for a title than what was used in the original news cast I watched, but to me this looks like some kind of early Covid feasibility study that was rejected for safety reasons.

It sounds more like the article is describing use of chimeras in investigating how coronaviruses infect human cells. Which we are already aware of the US-China partnership in these kinds of experiments.
