I have a book of daily readings by Spurgeon, today he says, "The holy rest which springs out of faith in the Lord Jesus also greatly helps a man when he is ill. Every physician rejoices to have a patient whose mind is fully at ease. Worry kills, but confidence in God is like healing medicine".

"Sleep"
by Charles Spurgeon

Sleep is the gift of God; and not a man would close his eyes, did not God put his fingers on his eyelids—did not the Almighty send a soft and balmy influence over his frame which lulled his thoughts into quiescence, making him enter into that blissful state of rest which we call sleep.
Sleep is the best physician that I know of. Sleep hath healed more pains of wearied heads, and hearts, and bones than the most eminent physicians upon earth.
It is astonishing what a difference a night’s rest makes with our troubles.

Yes. And God's mercies are new every morning. It is possible to forget the troubles of yesterday and start each day afresh. How much lighter the burden when we refuse to carry yesterday's into today.

that's powerful!
It's true, judging by Jacob fighting the 'Angel'; but at the same time, a gasped, weak, "God help me", of a hopeless, faltering soul, is not despised. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.

So true!

What experience do you have of the preaching and writings of the great man of God,Charles Haddan
Spurgeon?
Currently using his "Morning and Evening Devotional" (I'd recommend getting the book, but also free online) It is of note that Spurgeon held the same view on Christians and war that Assemblies of God held in the beginning

I am currently using his Morning and Evening devotional.

There are a lot of good devotional books. (e.g J.I Packer, Chambers...) Many are a selection of quotes by someone else and compiled into a book. The difference is that Spurgeon wrote this specifically for the reader, day by day, with a pastor's heart.

Of note on Spurgeon is that he held the same view on Christians and war that the Assemblies of God held in the beginning. Charles Spurgeon: On War and Christians
