Pence preps for potential 2024 presidential run amid rocky headlines about relationship with Trump - CNNPolitics

I'm sure there are others sources suggesting/saying this but I'm lazy and just wanted to throw something up.

What are your thoughts on this?

Me?
I LOVE it!
My prediction:
Trump, who apparently has fallen away from being a Pence fan, is certainly going to think that he will be more popular than that nobody Pence. He is not going to step down and will have a run off to head the republicans and then he'll try to rip the party apart if/when he loses that. He's going to make as big a mess as possible. It's gonna get ugly and stupid and I CANNOT WAIT to see what happens there. Trump makes good entertainment but the reason why I can't wait is because
1) I'm CONVINCED that he will not get into power again
2) He's going to go torched earth because he's a vindictive narcissist.

I've been pretty solid with my predictions about Trump's behaviour through his presidency. I mean, half the time he tells you or shows you why he's so awful. Maybe I (and many others) are just actually paying attention to him.

I agree with you about what Trump will likely do, and I also want Michelle Obama to surprise run 2024 to add to the chaos.
That would likely be the craziest election yet.

Maybe Pence is simply running to skim some money from the campaign donations. Ted Cruz does it often enough. I also think trump blames republicans for his own failures. It wouldn't surprise me if he just wants to sabotage the party for revenge. Trump is a very bitter, nasty feller. I actually think trump got some satisfaction when the Georgia runoffs were won by dems. He knows crying "election fraud" will suppress turnout, yet he's still crying wolf. It does seem Lindsey Graham's predictions of trump destroying the party are coming to fruition. With the aid of trump republicans helping to destroy faith in American democracy.

Pence is very elitist republican - which I don't actually view to be republican despite the fact they took over the party.

That said, I'd vote for Pence if it was his ticket...

I'm having a hard time imagining an outcome that wouldn't give me a stroke from all the schadenfreude.

lol, well, I suppose that would mean he learned something from his time in the White House.

Trump certainly will be more popular than Pence.

He is not going to step down and will have a run off to head the republicans and then he'll try to rip the party apart if/when he loses that.
Very unlikely...in both cases.

1) I'm CONVINCED that he will not get into power again
That's probably going to be correct, but not for the reasons you've mentioned.

I've been pretty solid with my predictions about Trump's behaviour through his presidency.
Well then, the ones you made in this post will "even out" your record to date.

Whaaaaat? LOL! His unpopularity is bipartisan! What is he thinking? Republicans literally wanted to hang him and Democrats think he’s dangerously prude.

I remember the last time I thought Trump running was going to be a hoot!

Trump goes "torched earth", so do his followers.

I'm used to seeing every political thread being turned into a (hate) Trump thread, but this is the first time I've seen an OP hijack his own thread about someone else to turn it into a Trump thread from the very first post.

Pence

I think Trump's age is an actual issue this go around, he would be what 78 upon election day and 82 before the first term was over? That's an issue I think...

Pence running for President would be like Romney 2.0; there's no way Republican voters are going to put Pence in the white house.
Description of an incident in Bob Woodward's new book, not a quote from the book.

So intent was Pence on being Trump’s loyal second-in-command — and potential successor — that he asked confidants if there were ways he could accede to Trump’s demands and avoid certifying the results of the election on Jan. 6. In late December, the authors reveal, Pence called Dan Quayle, a former vice president and fellow Indiana Republican, for advice.
Quayle was adamant, according to the authors. “Mike, you have no flexibility on this. None. Zero. Forget it. Put it away,” he said.
But Pence pressed him, the authors write, asking if there were any grounds to pause the certification because of ongoing legal challenges. Quayle was unmoved, and Pence ultimately agreed, according to the book.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ls-undermine-pences-supposed-hero-turn-jan-6/

If this is true, Pence is nothing like Romney.

I suspect that it is true because of who wrote the book and I can't imagine someone lying about something like that. It would be a major lawsuit.

And did you "predict" his win in 2016?
I can predict TRUMPS behaviour. I know his diagnoses. That doesn't mean I could have predicted the public's behaviour.

I'm used to seeing every political thread being turned into a (hate) Trump thread, but this is the first time I've seen an OP hijack his own thread about someone else to turn it into a Trump thread from the very first post.
what an absurd thought.
1. Trump is the current head of the republican party. He was pences boss. You think he's not relevant to the discussion with his personality and bravado?

2. How can I possibly be highjacking my own thread in the very first post? You've been on a forum for a while. You should know what hijacking means...
"Highjacking a thread" means you are trying to change the direction of the conversation.
There is nothing TO change because, in the first post, I was setting up the initial direction of the conversation. As the "original poster" (these are sometimes referred to as "OP"s), I get to decide what is like to hear about from other posters.

What an absurd statement. Did you make it because the thread title didn't directly slide to Trump?

What is he thinking? His thinking has been influenced by blind ambition for years. He has had his eyes set on the White House since he was a Congressman for my state, returning to become Governor as his launching pad. Trump as the more popular candidate spoiled his chances for 2016. So he did the next best thing. He hitched his wagon to President Trump - a person seemingly as opposite from his own values as could possibly be - to position himself for his own eventual run at the Oval office. It didn't turn out so well for him. I suspect his blind ambition will not allow him to not run for the presidency.

Wow. If planning on a run for the presidency constitutes "blind ambition," there's a long list of blindly ambitious pols in this country. Something like 17 people declared their candidacies for the GOP nomination in 2016 (and Pence was not among them) and a larger number sought the Democratic nomination in 2020.

Maybe there is nothing much to the CNN story. It seems to be based on a report that Pence has taken on more staff and a suggestion that the relationship between Pence and Trump has deteriorated - 'I don't want to be your friend anymore'.

Maybe Pence fancies his chances; perhaps he just wants the chance to spoil Trump's next campaign. I don't see how either can win in 2024.
