Nothing Donald Trump might attempt in order to save his position is beyond belief. The man has a pathologically narcissistic personality, and would clearly become unhinged by losing an election. I wouldn't doubt he could become so mentally unbalanced that he'd consider ordering a military strike against China. Even though there are absolutely no grounds for such an action, and it would be patently illegal. One thing I remember from taking ROTC is that no member of the armed forces is obligated to obey an illegal order. If Trump had even hinted at such a military strike, then Gen. Milley is 100% correct to be concerned and to report it to other government officials. Of course, Donald Trump denies it happened. So who knows? But given his record of mendacity, I wouldn't put anything past him.

Contacting the Chinese and informing them about a potential action of the president is an act of treason. If the Washington Post falsely reported they are in big trouble. Milley needs to make a public statement immediately.

Yah --- like "Pardon me for defending my country from a mad baboon!!" I'm sure Biden would pardon him.

Milley is an American patriot who was merely protecting us and the world from the self-serving cretin in our white house. If you are going to whine about this, at least have the courtesy to spell his name correctly!

Treason is treason, whether you care for the president's politics or not.

This - this isn't what happened -

I am asking if you realise that, or not.
General Milley can give his story about both calls to the head of the Chicom military if he wishes to try and refute the accusations by the Washington Post writers. Letting the Chinese know he pretty much has Trump under control in regard to the military exercises or letting the Chinese know that if Trump decides to attack he will let them know are both serious charges.

Letting the Chinese know he pretty much has Trump under control in regard to the military exercises or letting the Chinese know that if Trump decides to attack he will let them know are both serious charges.

The 'accusations' as you call them, are:

Milley had eyes on intercepted Chinese intelligence. This intelligence indicated Chinese intelligence officials feared some kind of first strike from the US.

For reasons that should be obvious, Milley contacted his counterpart in China to de-escalate.

Can you describe the mental process by which you get from this to 'Contacting the Chinese and informing them about a potential action of the president' ? What potential action are you talking about? What potential action did Milley inform the Chinese about?

Do you understand this:
a) Chinese intelligence services believed an imminent first strike by the US was a credible threat
b) This piece of information was intercepted
c) Milley, in his position as the top military officer of the US, was shown this information
d) He contacted someone of equivalent rank in China to de-escalate the situation by assuring the Chinese that no such first strike was being planned.

Where do you get your potential action of the president from?

Opinions will vary over whether or not he went about it in the right way, but for my money preventing potential military action from another superpower with reason to believe they were about to be attacked was a wise move. It's reassuring that people like Milley, much like the Russian submarine captain who averted a nuclear holocaust decades ago by refusing to act on direct orders until he had made his own checks, keep their heads in times of crisis and act regardless of any personal cost their actions may have.

Accusing the Washington Post of falsely reporting happened every other day under the previous administration. It never hurt them before.

Indeed -- the only way Milley can be accused of any kind of wrongdoing is if Donald really was planning an unprovoked nuclear strike against China.

And Milley is the one people are yelling at?

If Trump had been planning a military attack, and if Milley had then informed the Chinese of this planned attack - somehow Trump's minions have turned what actually happened into that, something that didn't happen. It's all very odd. They appear to be confusing basic concepts like the difference between an invasion/first strike and a declaration of war. Odder still, the same people crying treason support/supported the overthrow of a duly elected government based on the ramblings of some character off the TV.

We have previous incidents like this, so I consider Gen. Milley's actions to be commendable in trying to prevent some kind "wag the dog" incident.

After the 1969 EC-121 shootdown incident, F-4 Phantom fighter jets at Kunsan Air Base were ordered to load B61 nuclear bombs and began planning and preparations for a nuclear strike against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea).[22] After a few hours, the order to stand down was given. The jet never took off. Reportedly, President Richard Nixon was drunk when he gave the order for a nuclear attack against the DPRK.[23] The order to stand down was given on the advice of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

26 September 1983
Main article: 1983 Soviet nuclear false alarm incident
Several weeks after the downing of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 over Soviet airspace, a satellite early-warning system near Moscow reported the launch of one American Minuteman ICBM. Soon after, it reported that five missiles had been launched. Convinced that a real American offensive would involve many more missiles, Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov of the Air Defense Forces refused to acknowledge the threat as legitimate and continued to convince his superiors that it was a false alarm until this could be confirmed by ground radar.

I think Biden should put a well-worded temporary letter of admonition in his record, which would be removed after a year of no similar behavior.

Maybe 50 lines, something like 'I will not try to prevent nuclear war', or an hour or two of enforced listening to Chinese dubstep at the weekends.

Maybe some new 'unstable while in charge of a country' offence should be created.

I just want to hear them admit that they think Milley committed treason because Donald was planning to attack China without provocation.
