US diplomats sent cable warning of potential catastrophe in Afghanistan last month

Why the failure on evacuation? What do you think is really going on?

This issues belongs not only to Biden administration but also to Trumps administration. Indeed this could go back even further, the fact is we should have pulled out after the completed the mission not try to nation build. Historical this never works yet they did it anyway.

So if Biden group dropped part of the ball, this is true but guilt goes back further than just this stumbling.

Oddly enough in a recent interview Biden said he fully expected this chaos. I think it all depends on which day you "ask". On July 8 he predicted it would be orderly and safe - not at all the chaotic and life-threatening, hair-raising events of today. Tens of thousands of Afghanistan civilians and U.S. sympathizers are now in a life-at-risk situation. No wonder some of them try to hang onto planes in a mad effort to escape what is coming.

That is not true.

We went into Afghanistan after 9/11 purely for the purpose of our war against terrorism. To remove a safe haven and breeding/training ground for terrorists. It was us - taking it to the terrorists rather than sitting over here and waiting for them to come up with some new way to bomb our child care centers, blow up buses etc in America. And while doing that mission - we also were trying to convince folks in Afghanistan that it was not in their best interest to serve as a training and equipping center for terrorism around the world.

Trump's plan had the U.S participation at 2500 assets on the ground and that included staffing our air base, and conducting air support while 190,000 Afghani troops fought the battle on the ground (driving the Taliban back each year). And each year the Taliban would retreat back into Pakistan.

I honestly do not think there is any type of conspiracy here. What I think really happened is the Afghan Army was simply not as dedicated as the Taliban. Additionally, corruption within the Afghan Government was extreme, and this led to logistics problems. The Afghan soldiers had not been paid in six months, they were down to eating slimy potatoes, and were not being re-supplied with ammunition, or fuel.

The Afghan Army had also become dependent on American air support, when that ended, they had to depend on their own Air Force, which also had logistics problems due to corruption.

Lastly, we turned our back on them when we announced our departure in April, and this became a demoralizing issue, within the Afghan military.

The evacuation is ongoing, with people being flown out daily. The first day seemed a bit crazy, but I think the security situation is a bit better now, and things are more orderly.

American citizens are trapped in other cities, if they can't get to the airport in Kabul soon, they may get left behind. The British are going to other cities and getting their citizens, and bringing them back to Kabul under armed guard. I don't know the extent of this effort, but if it's not being done by convoy, then numbers could be small, If dependent on helicopters. As of yesterday, the US Military seems to have ruled out this kind of thing, but it could change if pressure is placed on the Pentagon by Congress...we will have to wait and see.

Yes, this reminds me of how the Bush administration was warned that an attack was coming before 9/11.

It's usually the case that someone somewhere figures out what is coming, and sends a warning. But a president typically gets a kind of summary briefing put together by a group, and the group decides what to highlight and what to convey as their overall estimate.

It's one thing to mistakenly trust in a intelligence estimate that Taliban will need at least a few months to take over....but once that intelligence estimate is shown wrong, then it's time to cut red tape, and so on. It's terrible to hear about the stories of Afghans who should get transported out, and the red tape has slowed them down far too much. I think Biden should have at least improved the odds -- such as a month ago to use Guam as a temporary holding place and bring more Afghans out sooner. I'm sure it seemed not the best idea back then, at the time, and there's where more vision is needed, a better ability to plan ahead. Notice when there's too much red tape, and then plan ahead. But the excuse will be that they thought there would be more time. It's not a very good excuse in my personal estimation.

Looks like the left is going to eat its own president.

To distract for the Arizona Senate Audit report due out today

That is one amazing misinterpretation!

Many of us support President Biden's decisions about the policy that former President Trump enacted. He made an agreement with the Taliban that all US forces would be out of the country by May 1.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the fraudulent Arizona Senate Audit report due out today.

Guam was/is a possibility, we could also pay Qatar, or one of the central Asian Republics to hold them there until things are sorted out, but once this happens, days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, and months turn into years.

The Son of Ahmed Shah Massoud, is forming a resistance in one of the few areas where the Taliban do not have a footprint in the country. We should encourage those who do not want to live under the Taliban to go there, along with the Afghan Army remnants which fled to Tajikistan with their equipment.

The Afghan Vice President is located with the resistance, they have a chance.

When our evacuation is over we need to take down the airfields where the aircraft of the Afghan Air Force are sitting, gas them up, and fly them out for the resistance to use....then we need to support the resistance... a free Afghanistan if you will. If that's not possible, then we need to destroy the aircraft, and as much of the rest of the equipment left behind.

We need to get our own citizens and our missionaries out, Afgans are second at best . What are we going to do,not just open our boarders for every Tom Dick and Harry to waltz on in but now fly whole countries of people in from over seas ? We have Americans stuck behind Taliban lines over there.

It looks like the State Department did implement or start implementing many of the measures suggested in the dissent memo. Said memo also expected things to get worse after the US troops were fully withdrawn at the end of the month.

Yeah saw this somewhere else also. They were warning president Trump(this is not about Trump)when he wanted to pull out. Just Trump would have went back in by now. Praying for them..

I am sure Biden knew all about this before Jan 2021.

Thats a tremendous portion of scripture and I love it but our people are stuck behind Taliban lines. The only thing our troops are holding down is the airport. That was as of last night.
This thing is a huge botch job and they know it.
Yeah, it's not going to reflect well on Biden in my opinion, unless there is a way to get more of the people to the airport and out.

Of course. But the "auditors" have been stalling for a long time. By now, it seems that they're hoping it will just go away and no one will notice.

It looks like it took a lawsuit to get that addressed...

Arizona Senate must release election audit records: court

The Arizona Court of Appeals on Thursday ruled that the leading contractor of Arizona’s audit of the Maricopa County 2020 election results must turn over documents related to the effort.

American Oversight, a watchdog group, has been seeking documents regarding the county’s recount and audit, which was initiated because former President Trump disputed the 2020 election results in battle ground states like Arizona.

The watchdog group had been involved in a legal fight with Arizona’s Senate over the public release of the documents, The Associated Press reported.

"The Senate defendants, as officers and a public body under the (records law), have a duty to maintain and produce public records related to their official duties," the judges wrote on Thursday, according to The Arizona Republic. "This includes the public records created in connection with the audit of a separate governmental agency, authorized by the legislative branch of state government and performed by the Senate’s agents."

The judges wrote in their decision that government contractors, such as Florida-based company Cyber Ninjas, are still subject to Arizona Public Records laws, which Republicans had argued against.

“The requested records are no less public records simply because they are in the possession of a third party, Cyber Ninjas," they wrote, according to the Arizona Republic.
Arizona Senate must release election audit records: court

Not just some numbers they will report; they have to produce the documents showing how they got there, which makes the audit checkable. Which is what the Arizona Senate feared most.

Cyber Ninjas 'audit': Maricopa County puts Arizona Senate on notice, seeks $2.8 million to replace 'compromised' election equipment
The review itself has already cost taxpayers $150,000 - supplemented by millions of dollars in private donations.

In May, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, instructed Maricopa County to stop using any machines that had been handled by Cyber Ninjas. She said elections officials could no longer guarantee the machines had not been tampered with.

The federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency echoed that advice. "If it is determined that the chain of custody of critical systems have been compromised, the safest practice is to decommission and replace those systems," a spokesperson said in a statement.
Cyber Ninjas 'audit': Maricopa County puts Arizona Senate on notice, seeks $2.8 million to replace 'compromised' election equipment

Arizona’s Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in a letter sent Monday slammed both the State Senate Republican President and the company she chose to perform a highly-controversial recount of the 2020 presidential election ballots.

That recount, which has been going on for nearly four weeks, has been plagued by regular reports of irregular and suspicious actions and, as the Board of Supervisors said today, “ineptitude.”

Already the U.S. Dept. of Justice has notified the company performing the recount, Cyber Ninjas, that it is watching their actions and warning them their actions may violate the law.

The Maricopa Board of Supervisors – which is made up of four Republicans and just one Democrat – Monday did not hold back, blasting Senate President Karen Fann, accusing her of lying, among other disturbing actions.

Fann, in a false accusation picked up and repeated by Donald Trump over the weekend, claimed Maricopa County deleted an entire database. The accusation was made either out of ignorance or political vengeance, or both, but the damage has been done.

The County responded today, calling the accusations “false, defamatory, and beneath the dignity of the Senate.”
