Has anyone been “slain in the Spirit” outside of Pentecostal and charismatic circles?

The phenomenon of being "slain in the Spirit" was recently brought to my attention by a very recent upload. Here are two additional examples if you want to see more (warning -- they can be a little bit shocking): 1, 2.

According to Wikipedia, this is a phenomenon that is most commonly reported in group settings, in Pentecostal and charismatic churches, and my own experience watching many videos of people undergoing this phenomenon seems to corroborate this overall impression. And I can therefore perfectly understand why some people might feel tempted to think that this merely is a "hyper-charismatic", "hyper-Pentecostal" thing, not really to be expected to happen outside of those circles. But is this really the case?

Has the phenomenon of being "slain in the Spirit" ever been reported to take place outside of Pentecostal and charismatic circles, spontaneously and unexpectedly, to people who had no prior conditioning in this regard?

God does not slay or control people…..the true God doesn’t…..…but the god of this world does.

I have seen it done …..and there are three possibilities.

1. It’s voluntary.

2. being knocked down by the administer.

3. If it’s not voluntary falling and not being knocked over then it’s a devil sprit.

Hi... just share exactly what happen no more no less. You don't know me so .. no reason to mislead/lie. Lol.. I was like 16 and me and a friend would go hmmm take things that were not ours as in bikes, motorcycles.. not good. So just got out of Juvie and worked at the same place my mom did. Heard her on the phone talking about people falling down at Church and asked if I could go. So Glad tidings Church it was a Friday night and this preacher came to preach. At some point he said "is there anyone here that wants to experience the power of GOD. I was saved.. yeah hard to know but I thought sure if He is really real so I went up. There were allot of people there.

So I was standing on stage with people like 5+ feet away no one around me his back was to me. He turned took one finger touched my forehead said "in JESUS name". Next thing I know is I wake up on the ground how I got there.. how long.. no clue. I started to get up.. the spirit of GOD hit my feet shot up into my chest.. WOW just WOW.. OH I tried lol to keep going up to have that happen again.. but it did not.

I think most fall because they think thats what you are to do. There are those like me where the power of is there and you can not stand. I remember now this book where they were all praying. A man and a bunch of high school kids praying. He said he opened his eyes looked at this girl who just fell over. He asked her what happened? She said... I looked over at the door way and JESUS walked in and she could not stand.

If we read His word and take it as its written.. in John as soon as He said I AM HE they fell backwards to the ground. It is very real. It is the only time I feel under the power. The other time that came close was.. I wanted the preacher to pray for me for the anointing but he was not asking anyone anything just praying for them. So as he lol came to me I had my hands up and said FOR THE ANOINTING. It was like lightening hit my hand shot into my chest.

Now these sound so wonderful yet this is over my life time so far I am now 60. I have learned its NOT something you seek out.. He does it all. I just don't judge this by what I see in some Churches. There are those moments when you truly just want to know something experience something.. He does it. Never the same thing twice :)

Again reminds me of a dream I had so many years ago.. before I knew about this. In the dream I was on stage .. it was a Church. This blond woman comes up to me asks me to pray for her. She was taller so I put both hands on each side of her face said "in Jesus name" she went down and these people came around and then I was in another place asking people to quite down. I could keep going but.. just make sure its in the word or goes in line with the word.. and DON'T believe me.. seek it out you find it for your self. JESUS Christ is real.. and FAITH will always move GOD.. doubt will always stop Him. Oh what He did does for one He will do for all!

1 Kings 8:

10 And it happened that when the priests came from the holy place, the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord.

Carl beat me to it. But here's a few more scriptures that says they fell - in all directions:
-2Ch 5:14 "So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God."
-Rev 1:17 "And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:"
-Eze 44:4 "Then the man brought me by way of the north gate to the front of the temple. I looked, and the glory of the Lord filled his temple. And I fell facedown."
-They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.” John 18:5-6
-"Then the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face." Num 22:3

Yes...

I remember about 30 years ago discipling a local doctor who was new in the faith. At that point he had had little church experience.

He was zealous for God and invited our family for a meal and fellowship.

Being new in the faith he wanted everything in his possession to be dedicated to God.

So he asked if it would be OK to pray for his house to be in God's hands.

That sounded fine to me - then after prayer he asked if it was OK to anoint the entrances of the house with oil. We agreed and he found some olive oil, reached up and touched the oil on the mantle and started to pray over the door.

At that point God's Spirit became strongly present - so much so that he fell backwards down several concrete steps. Interestingly he was not hurt at all, even although he free fell and was over 6'5" tall.

There are times when His presence overcomes His servants - the conversion of Paul is a case in point.

Now 30 years later he is a strong and courageous believer very active for the Lord.

I am a bit curious as to your experience with being slain with TM involvement …would you mind sharing a bit.

I also was involved years ago, actually the whole family (all 12 including parents) took it….I can still remember my mantra.

I was wondering at which point or level did you experience the slain….I think at one point they (for a nominal fee) were offering how to fly or something which was really astral projection.

I didn’t stay with I long …maybe a year …graduated to satanism for a few years before God rescued me.

Hello! Some people point to Hinduism and New Age -'Kundalini'.

In my experience what believers mean by 'Slain in the Spirit' is different. But the distinction to make is that I believe there was a genuine move of the Holy Spirit some years ago, then fakery was brought in, people trying to push each other over, or techniques to put people off balance.

When the presence of God fills a place or touches a person it's tangible. No push or manipulation needed

I have been to Wesleyan Holiness services which reminded me very much of an old-timey, Pentecostal service minus the tongues. But the emotionalism was there, the loud prayers, the pleas for God’s healing, and the style of worship. It was interesting, and I could see where Pentecostalism got a lot of its culture, theology, and uniqueness.

I became a Sidha at the Iowa campus. Experienced all the same manifestations often seen at a hyper Charismatic event. But I should stop here for fear of getting reported.

You must have a great testimony on how God delivered you from these Satanic practices! Glory to God for your deliverance.

About 40 years ago I was called to bring correction to a bunch of believers who were under a 'controlling spirit' and among other things were falling down under it's power.

You can read about it here...

Practicing the gifts...

So we need to be careful and be mindful that deceiving spirits can mimic Gods activity.

I'm not sure about the uncontrollable shaking or the other manifestations like barking that sometimes appear. What do you think? God Bless :)
