John 16:8 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
The Holy Spirit shows/teaches us the truth, and how we are to live our lives to be pleasing to God.
A real born-again Christian is a person who has been given a new nature by the life changing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The new Christian still has the old sinful nature, and is not a perfect sinless creature, but the Holy Spirit gives the Christian the ability to live a life that is pleasing to God. The problem is that the old sinful nature battles with the new nature for control of the Christian's life. Each day the Christian chooses whether he/she will walk in the Spirit or walk in the flesh.
The Christian who is walking in the Spirit will study God's Word and allow the Spirit to do His work within which should result in the Christian living a life that is pleasing to God. The Spirit led Christian life should be different in many ways such as in the way he/she treats others, serving others, putting the needs of others before his/her own needs, loving others. The bible instructs husbands to love their wives in the same way Christ loved the church and gave His life for it. It instruct wives to love their husbands, children to obey parents, everyone to obey law/government & honor leaders so that they can lead a peaceful life. The bible teaches that there are many good deeds Christians can do for others, but if done without love it doesn't accomplish as much as it would have if done in love. Love is the main thing. The Holy Spirit uses God's Word to change the way Christians think, it conditions the Christian's mind to think about things in a way that is pleasing to God. Christians can & should be different from non-Christians, but unfortunately that is not the way things always work out.
Furthermore, you might have heard someone say that the Bible is a Living Book. I agree that it is because I can read a certain scripture today that I have read sometime in the past and the Holy Spirit will show me something that I did not see before. I have been reading the bible for over 40 years and I still do not understand all of it, but I continue to learn new truth each day. Another thing I have heard people say is that the bible contradicts itself, but with the help of the Holy Spirit I have learned that it actually explains itself.
Simple stated, the Christian who is walking in the Spirit can have a life of peace, assurance, and a life of serving others in love vs the Christian who is walking in his/her old sinful nature will probably be living a life of selfishness, worldliness, struggling with sin, and therefore will not be living a life that is pointing others to Christ.
There is much much more that could be said about the matter of living by the teaching of the Bible, God's Word. Unfortunately, many people take scripture out of context and use it to teach false doctrines, and there are differences in some translations that can complicate the matter of teaching the truth, plus, many people just don't read/study the bible but rely on a preacher/teacher to tell them what to believe, and therefore, miss out on the Holy Spirit helping with learning the truth.
I don't know it all myself, but I do know that the MAIN message of the bible from Genesis to Revelations is the Gospel. If you believe the message of the Gospel then you are on the right path to living a life that pleases God, and one that points unbelievers to that message. And, of course in the end you get to spend eternity with your Creator.
My advice to anyone who is truly searching for the truth about God and the Bible, would be to start with the scripture in Jeremiah 29:13, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Meaning that if you earnestly search after God you will find Him. Then read & study the Gospel of John and the Book of Romans looking to God to show you the truth that is found there. God will show you the truth if you are genuinely seeking that truth. If you read those scriptures not expecting to find anything there, then you probably won't find anything because God knows your motive and if you are not seeking Him as He requires in Jeremiah 29:13 then He might not give you the ability to see the truth that you need so that you can know Him. If you are truly seeking the truth about God, you might have to read those 2 bible books several times before God gives you the spiritual light to understand the truth. It's up to you; God is real and He is not hiding from anyone. Spiritual light is required to find Him, to know He is real and only He can give you the light that you need.

John
