Progressives Don't Seem To Want Anything Passed

Progressives have been drawing the line. Let's pass everything without any Republican involvement. Let's pass our $6B plus social services bill and let's overturn the filibuster and pass the 2019 kitchen sink voting rights bill. We'll just FORCE Manchin to vote for the biggest spending bill in the history of the republic.

Let us threaten to not vote for another $1T of spending (after the $1.7M stimulus package, unless the rest of the $6B is passed at the same time.

Yes, at at the same time, let us continue to oppose the bi-partisan legislation of police reform.

THE REALITY
1) The filibuster will NOT be overturned. It could be reduced to 55 votes instead of 60, but that doesn't matter. Manchin MIGHT agree to an exception in order to pass his revised voting rights bill.
2) Manchin will NOT vote for a reconciliation bill of many billions. MAYBE, he would vote for a much more limited bill, after infrastructure passes.
3) A police reform bill will may pass, with the radical progressives voting against.

BOTTOM LINE
After Trump gave up a 2 year senate seat to Warmack, the progressives think that they have a filibuster-proof majority to go forward with all of their agenda. They seem to think that 60 Democratic senators agree with their agenda. The progressives are due to get a taste of reality. The only question is how much potential legislation will fail so that they can make their point, as they try to take over the party for the 2024 elections.

But let's be clear, I have followed US politics for over 60 years, and have the issues within the Democratic Party at least 1956. So, perhaps someone from another country MIGHT consider that I have a somewhat informed opinion of these issues within my party.

Regardless, some evidence of current behavior would give credence to your forecast.

But let's be clear, I have followed US politics for over 60 years, and have the issues within the Democratic Party at least 1956. So, perhaps someone from another country MIGHT consider that I have a somewhat informed opinion of these issues within my party.

Given that 70 million of you voted for Trump, and some 80 million a different septuagenarian white guy, I'll stick with the "evidence please" line.

Many progressive have been saying for a few weeks that that the WH and senators should stop negotiating and discussing these bills with Republicans. They indicated that none of Biden's and House bills should reduced in size or scope. They should be passed through Democratic votes alone, through reconciliation if possible. If not, there should be a filibuster exclusion and, better yet, a removal of the filibuster.

For example, many have rejected the filibuster bill unless all the rest of they want was passed under a second bill at the same time. Of course, it this were possible, there would be no need for the bi-partisan bill.

Progressives, have said they won't agree to a bill without billions for this, or billions for that.

is that Biden, with Manchin negotiating can get a lot done, but not the whole progressive agenda, much of which cannot get 50 votes (or, if truth be know, even close to 50 votes).

My position is to accept the low hanging fruit first. Get the $1T compromise infrastructure bill passed in August. This would be biggest infrastructure bill in decades. Have Manchin write his bill and get him to give it a filibuster exception. This would be the most important voting bill in decades.

THEN, see what can be agreed up among Democrats for a further infrastructure recon bill. It is not clear that 50 Democrats will agree on anything more.
