No way to atheistic charities. A lot of that money goes to - surprise surprise - atheistic causes.

Different denom is okay. There's a couple I personally wouldn't do.

What is an atheistic charity? I've never heard of such a thing.

They are out there. I know someone at the office who was fundraising for one. I don't remember it's name tho.

I quit giving money to the homeless.

if people are standing in 20 degree weather with a sign saying "homeless" , I believe they need the money

so last time, first went & bought them a hot drink to give with some money

once a man at a mall asked me for $ for food
I was young/curious, so after gave him money, followed him & he went straight to the mall restaurant

Sometimes a secular charity is in a much better position to get the aid to where it is needed. This is particularly true in times of disaster. The Red Cross and the Red Crescent are two such. They are about getting help to people in need without promoting a faith. That is the last thing a charity should be about.

Even the offhand comment "thank God for those who give" reminds that the attribute of generosity is to be credited to God as well.

I exclusively support Christian charities. Christian charities promote the Gospel and are part of the Great Commission. Promoting the Gospel should be the one and only priority for Christians.

Acts of kindness and compassion are not limited to those we agree with or whom we accept as "one of us". Often it is the "them" who need the Saviour the most. The thief on the Cross was one of "them" and yet something changed his mind and heart when he saw the suffering Christ and said, "Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And the Lord told him, without demanding anything from him in the way of religious observance, "Today, you shall be with Me in Paradise."

It is a trying path and I don't believe there is a one size fits all answer. One thing to consider is what is the motivation for donating. We can go down the beloved boycott road where we boycott anything that isn't biblical. Good luck buying food, clothing or most anything else if you follow it through to the t. We can also go down the road of supporting anyone that does some good. Problem there is there are some organizations that do a little good but essentially are evil. Jesus said you are for me or against me. If the organization is against Christ but does a little good in man's eyes, are they ok?
