What issues are we called to take a stand on?

Many Christians would agree that we are called to have a direct impact in , at minimum, our local social sphere: but to what extent? My second question is: on what issues?

abortion
ecology
taxes
political corruption
police brutality
public spending
neocolonialism
human rights abuses
social welfare
religious freedom
child trafficking
drug laws
trade unions
market regulation
gun control
censorship
sanctions
immigration
free speech
gay marriage
genetic engineering
technology regulation
privacy

Which issues get you out of bed on the weekend to make a little mayhem? A petition here, a little nonviolent picketing there. Which issues do you let slide? Why?

We are called to take a stand on every issue that concerns us that is not compatible with the gospel if we can. Of coarse as human beings we are limited on time.

IMO, the 3 "issues" Christians should be most concerned with are (in no particular order)

> Feed the hungry
> House the homeless
> Clothe the naked

If we put our resources to these goals, people will flock to the church(es) because of the fruit it would bear. You can reach and teach but what are you doing to help your neighbor is at the heart of Christ's ministry.

Of the list provided, I would say

> Free speech
> Freedom of religion
>privacy

For me the current issues that concern me the most are probably as follows:

1. The lack of love in the world
2. inappropriate contentography
3. Abortion
4. Homosexuality
5. Anti Semitic attacks
6. Shootings
7. Sexual immorality and the breakdown of marriage and the traditional family
8. Sex Trafficking
9. The Environment

I mean there are so many issues that concern me though so it’s pretty hard to give a summary.

I'm interested in how you are deciding which issues are not worth pursuing.

Well honestly I guess I’m just picking the top issues that are close to my heart but like I said all issues contrary to the gospel are important to address.

Gun control. Sometimes I like to go shooting on the weekend.

I guess we decide what issues are causing the biggest problems and we attack those.

Aren't we called to "come out" of the world so that we are not affected by these problems?

Actually I have an interest in the drug problem. I emailed my Senator with some suggestions about it. I received a 'form letter' email acknowledging my communication that also indicated that I would receive an answer to my specific topic later. I'm guessing that it be in another 'form letter' explaining what is being done about the drug problem, with no discussion about my suggestions. In other words while I will receive a response from my Senator it will likely be evident that she doesn't have the time or interest in considering my input. I hope I'm wrong about this. News at eleven.

I also contacted my alderperson (suggested by the mayor's office) concerning our once beautiful lakes, now a weedy, smelly mess with huge algae blooms, beach closings, and fish kills. I encouraged her to support a vigorous lake weed harvesting effort. I haven't heard back from her either.

I reserve the weekends for my own personal use.

Anyway, our economy is dependent upon these problems as they are being 'managed' for the political and financial benefit of the rich and powerful. They also provide employment for the rest of us. By solving these social problems we would put millions out of work. So we're stuck with them.

I'm guessing you're joking, but you're not wrong when you say that there there is political incentive to keep these issues live.
