A handful of heavyweights in the conservative movement on Monday launched an advocacy group designed to push back against what the organization describes as a rising tide of “cancel culture” and “corporate wokeism.”

Excerpt:

“Part of it is that we want to build a list of grassroots conservatives and other everyday Americans who we can deploy when there’s a cancel culture issue,” Mr. Davis said. “So contact the CEO’s office at Coca-Cola and tell them, ‘Go woke, go broke.’”

People like this that whine about cancel culture and wokeism are often inconsistent in their proclamation. They engage in the same activity they decry. How many of them demand the resignation or firing of people they disagree with? How many of them demanded the firing of Colin Kaepernick? These right-wing ideologues have always supported "cancelling" things. Just ask Tinky Winky.

I agree, the right does cancel culture too. I’m conservative but have never obeyed boycotts of the Scouts, Starbucks, Target, etc. because I care about the people who work there and I know them from frequenting. I can’t stand being preached to by corporations, but the people on the ground are what matter.

suggesting that the organization chiefly wants the freedom to engage in racist speech without getting in trouble.

After reading the website...I don't see where you're getting this from

Have you been able to tell exactly what issues Mike Davis and "Unsilenced Majority" are supporting? The web site (Unsilenced Majority - Opposing cancel culture and fighting back against the woke wob and their enablers) repeatedly uses the word "woke" to describe what it opposes, suggesting that the organization chiefly wants the freedom to engage in racist speech without getting in trouble. If that's not what they're about, they should have chosen different wording.

It's the opposite. "Wokeness" typically refers to ideas that encourage stuff like racial discrimination, so being opposed to it suggests that someone's opposed to racism.

Colin Kaepernick got fired because he was not the best person for the job, just that simple. Complaining about people whining and then complaining about Kaepernick and people who are inconsistent in their proclamation in the same paragraph is ironic at best.

"woke" is racist speech, racist is the first word they use when they disagree with someone.

Wait.... so the solution to cancel culture is... even more cancel culture?

Exactly. And yet another example is former President Trump. He repeatedly berated the NFL football players who knelt during the National Anthem. He called them a profane name, demanded that they be fired or suspended or face a fan boycott, and he said 'maybe they shouldn't be in this country.'

The people that are whining were calling for Kaepernick to be fired, yet they are the ones decrying "cancellation." The irony is the people that look at this thread and nod their heads in agreement when they are the same group of people that call for boycotts and people to be fired. How is this concept lost on you?

Here is Merriam-Webster's discussion of the history of the word "woke" (Stay Woke) and Merriam-Webster's dictionary definition itself (Definition of WOKE).

The Unsilenced Majority organization could have chosen many words to express what they oppose, and they chose this word.

This seems like a case of the dictionary having an outdated definition, Because of internet slang (although it's not just limited to the internet now), most of the time when the word "woke" is used today it refers to the kind of hypocritical views where someone who claims to be against racism is actually really racist, or someone who claims to be against sexism is actually really sexist.

It's like the "white fragility" thing that was popular last year. It's ridiculously racist, but it was promoted as "anti-racism". That's what the term "woke" currently refers to.

Insofar as that is true, it would be best not to cooperate with stealing and redefining a word in this way. Rather, conservatives could coin their own word, or simply state their position in plain English.

The tactic has been pretty obvious for a while now...

The woke make up a term that's the opposite of what they mean.

Anti-racism = racial discrimination. It's literally the same thing.

Imagine someone takes a box, fills it with manure, and slaps a label on it that says "Anti-manure".

Some people just look at the label and buy what's in the box. Some people notice it stinks and look inside.

How many of these "Cancel Culture" resisters are on record as having tried to cancel the results of the 2020 election?

From the article:

Our goal is to end cancel culture by using cancel culture tactics,” he said. “We’re going to rely on small-dollar donors, but I’m paying for this myself right now just because I’m so tired of cancel culture.”

IOW, they’re going to use hypocrisy to soak gullible people for donations.

That’s about what I would’ve expected from a group like this.

The whole premise implies that conservatives have, until now, been silent on the subject of cancel culture - which is an absurd notion. Nobody is unsilencing themselves.

As I said: Colin Kaepernick got fired because he was not the best person for the job, just that simple. Those who want to make something else out of it are just trying to support a race related narrative.
