Will there be Republican primaries in 2024 if Trump wants to run?

The thought just occurred to me. If Trump doesn’t run there will obviously be a primary but does the Republican Party allow one to occur if Trump runs in 2024.

If they are still going along with the lie that Trump was cheated in 2020, I don’t know how you can’t just name him your party’s nominee. Based on that lie he deserves to be given the shot at the presidency. Those not buying into the lie can claim that Trump lost in 2020 so they shouldn’t give him a chance to lose again but those going along with the lie don’t have a good reason he shouldn’t be the nominee.

Additionally, if Biden runs for re-election, the Democrats obviously won’t have more than a token primary source we could have no real primaries for the 2024 presidential election.

I think in 24 it could be a battle between Trump and popular Republican governors and senators like Rick Scott, and Ron Desantis. Trump could get the nomination but he has to articulate a message where he keeps some of the best of maga, attacks Biden for all his mistakes, but lifts several pages from Reagan about not just pointing out all the bad areas but giving hope of a renewed jobs, economic growth, security etc. and generally affirming faith in America etc. Some kind of message discipline would be good, especially in regards to things like his past Tweeting.

"If Biden runs or re-election "

At the moment, I think he'd do well to finish the year, let alone his administration. I don't mean to sound so obtuse, but can YOU see him making it to 2028 as President? I can't. Harris will 100% take his place and I'll bet my place on the forum for it. (Seriously, if she isn't in the next race, I'll have my account deleted. That's how sure I am.)

I think it'll be another Republican victory in 2024, but I don't think it'll be The Donald; I have a horrible feeling that the junior version might try his luck though.

"Try" being the operative word. I think GOP will want a proper Republican this time.

Can you remind me what the "best of MAGA" was, specifically?

Well I said in an earlier thread months back.

MAGA is really only about a few things

1) Americans should not be self hating about themselves and their country (in spite of how liberal educators try to indoctrinate us at ever lowering ages as far as the education system goes). Americans should take genuine pride in their accomplishments. This can be done without white washing the problems of the past.

2) American should stop being the World's Policeman and should prioritize fixing our own problems at home.

Was it finding good people among neo-nazis? Was it mocking the disabled? Was it ignoring/mishandling a deadly pandemic? Was it a tax break for the ultrawealthy?

I don't believe he mishandled the pandemic, we would not have the Covid vaccinations if not for him expediting things with Operation warp speed etc. As far as the rest, the Dems got no room to talk with their support of BLM and Antifa.

PS - I wish he hadn't saluted the NK general but I don't see this as worse than stuff other politicians have done like Obama bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia.

Ironic to state that on a Christian forum site. One of the great values of Christianity to me is the realization that none of us are perfect. ALL of us are "fallen". In a sense that "self-criticism" is what helps us strive to be better.

2) American should stop being the World's Policeman and should prioritize fixing our own problems at home.

Agreed. Unfortunately MAGA ushered in an era of a president who literally toadied to every known dictator and insulted every democratic ally we had in the world.

Half a million dead Americans would beg to disagree.

As I understood it Pfizer didn't utilize any Warped Seed money. But I will grant that his actions did help move things along overall.

Blind pigs can be expected to find truffles once in a while.

Uh huh.

I don't expect any message discipline from Trump, if he even had that concept while in office we saw what it meant to him. Reagan had a rule about not speaking ill of a fellow Republican, Trump threw that out the window. He's had his whole life to learn and exercise discipline and grace, he's not going to improve without a Damascus Road level miracle from God. For his soul's sake and for the country's sake, that needs to happen. Second best is that he would be unable to run or even make an endorsement again. I'd rather have him learn humility and endorse a better Republican without tearing him or her down first, but we need that miracle for that to happen.

Yeah I mostly agree with all of that. At this point, I would prefer if the Florida governor continues to do well and actually run and get it. I think we would be better off with a new upcomer that can brag about some accomplishments in the Covid times, and not have the baggage that Trump has.

But I kind of think that things are a bit of a free for all between Trump supporters and some promising younger politicians.

Oh man, I hope there’s a primary that includes him. If he wins, it torpedoes better Republican candidates and reinforces just how loony that party is. If he loses, then he loses and has it rubbed in the face of him and all of his sycophantic supporters. The icing on the cake would be if a couple of indictments came out of some shady campaign shenanigans.

Possible nominees know Trump fights a dirty dishonest campaign and creates chaos if he loses.

Should someone else win the primary, Trump will wreak such havoc with his base that the nominee would have no chance of winning.

And who would want Trump accusing his parents of killing JFK and other damaging lies.

Honestly I do not think either one of them will run in 2024. Trump has power and he will use it to see to it that the candidate of his selection will run.
