There ought to be a single word that references the fact that God drinks up our sin like water. I'm referring to the forbearance and grace of God, who apparently, though he requires obedience and holiness, is not surprised by the sin that so easily besets us, including the horror of outright rebellion from time to time, of the Elect, and even for some of us sometimes, long periods of time of angry rebellion, not to mention the awful sins we cherish so that we refuse to acknowledge them. I'm talking about the patience of God who waits for the 'old man' to die.

There are no end of words, 'grace', 'forbearance', but they don't reference that single fact that to me is overwhelming, compelling.

WHY should he undergo such pain for such silly, self-important creatures?

There is no word because Jesus does not 'drink our sins like water' he endured them, bore the shame, the pain and the rejection for them because he loves us.

Hello, John. I'm not saying he enjoyed it. But for our sakes he absorbs more than we can know, and doesn't even condemn our ignorance of the matter. That's the kindness and love he shows us.

I agree that is why. But that is a bit cryptic. Explain why you said that, if you don't mind....

What do you mean ' he absorbs ' sin? He became sin in order to deal with it once and for all.
There is no mention in the Bible of how he became sin, just the fact that he did.

Our ignorance or our knowledge is of vital importance. Those who do not acknowledge and receive Jesus are already condemned.

Condemned because of there rejection of Jesus and all he does.
Ignorance is no excuse.

"Absorbs" is my poor attempt in describing the willingness of God to take our sin, and the power of God to handle it.

Death is swallowed up in victory.

God drinks up our sin like water.

The word is "destroy" sin:
1 John 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

rebellion from time to time, of the Elect

Where have you seen the Elect rebel against God "from time to time"?
Not in Scripture, His elect are obedient unto death, as demonstrated by the Apostles, and it is because of their loyalty they were elected, because they are faithful to Him.
As God is faithful:

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

Be faithful to enter into the joy of the Lord:

Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

long periods of time of angry rebellion, not to mention the awful sins we cherish

All this is evidence of someone who is not in Christ, because in Him there is no darkness at all:
1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Sin is of the devil, and anger and hatred, darkness:
1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

I'm talking about the patience of God who waits for the 'old man' to die.

It is wellworth His time, there is great joy in Heaven when someone repents:

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Also, He is Eternal, and wishes all come to repentance. But if they dont repent God is not bothered, God is not mocked, they are on their own, and he wont hear them:

Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

WHY should he undergo such pain for such silly, self-important creatures?

First, God does not undergo pain, there is no pain in Heaven, He is not bothered in the slightest because someone rebelled against, if anything you provoke Him to anger, and it will be you who undergoes pain not Him, and a lot of pain, even forever.

If you were refering to Christ, who went trough pain on the cross, it is because He is wise, and He knows this pain is just a "few things", and because He was faithful in few things, God made Him ruler over many things, and he is in the joy of the Lord. Also, since He died for us, and loves us, maybe we are not just "silly creatures", and we have value, so much that Christ died for us, because it was worth it. We are Gods creatures, dont undermine.

And this is the example to follow: to be faithful even unto death, because these are the "few things", and the servant who is faithful over few things will be faithful over many things in the joy of the Lord.

Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

And to undergo all the pain necessary even death, because this is the "small thing" and is nothing compared to the torment of eternal death.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

I don't remember —are you one of those who says you have no sin? Is the old man inactive in you?

The Greek for "Committeth" and "sinneth" —is that not continuous action? We do confess and repent. I hope you do too, but maybe you are sinless. I wonder what your wife would say.

Of course he came to destroy the works of the devil. Did I say otherwise?

Where have you seen the Elect rebel against God "from time to time"?
Not in Scripture, His elect are obedient unto death, as demonstrated by the Apostles, and it is because of their loyalty they were elected, because they are faithful to Him.
As God is faithful:
Oh, let's see... Peter was wrong, Paul had to straighten him up. Paul never claimed to have attained...

And this implies he never sinned once...?

All this is evidence of someone who is not in Christ, because in Him there is no darkness at all:
1 John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

Sin is of the devil, and anger and hatred, darkness:
1 John 2:9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.

Agreed. Where is the implication that the elect never sin?

It is wellworth His time, there is great joy in Heaven when someone repents:

Luke 15:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Of course it is worth his effort —why else would he create?

First, God does not undergo pain, there is no pain in Heaven, He is not bothered in the slightest because someone rebelled against, if anything you provoke Him to anger, and it will be you who undergoes pain not Him, and a lot of pain, even forever.

You have a strange notion of Grace and redemption, not to mention of the horror of sin, to imply that his pain at the cross was temporal.

You make too many assumptions..
I'm talking about the patience of God who waits for the 'old man' to die.

First you say God is "waiting" for the old man to die, now you say of course its to destroy sin.
Do you understand "destroy" means totally, the Lamb unbinds you, completely.
But you say otherwise when you say they still sin, accusing even the elect, as if nothing had changed, implying it wasnt "destroyed" completely by the Lamb.
So, the Lamb is perfect and He does not fail to "destroy", the only one who can fail here is you, who fails to repent and keep the commandments, love your brother, etc.

Peter was wrong

Your accusation against the Elect of God, is an accusation against God.
The Elect of God are "born of God" and have been given the Holy Spirit, so your accusation must be a false accusation, because the Holy Spirit cannot sin.

Agreed. Where is the implication that the elect never sin?

They have sinned in the past, but they cannot ever sin again after they have been elected.
Right here Sir:
1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

his pain at the cross was temporal

It was, now He is in the joy of the Lord.

The testimony of God is greater than the testimony of man.

Oh, brother! Is any of us of the elect, then, born again? Because, after all, we do sometimes commit sin. What are you saying—that we dare not call it sin? Just "stumbling"?

What do you do with 1 John 1:8-10? —wash it away with a torrent of other verses concerning integrity and faithfulness and the power of God to remove and destroy sin? Are you suddenly, upon being born again, become a glorified person already in the presence of God, seeing him as he is, knowing him as you are known, perfect and complete, unneeding of maturity, altogether mature, whose motives are always altogether pure? Or do you sometimes commit sin?

Yes there are elect, born again, and they dont sin, as testified by Scripture.
Like I said, you make too many assumptions, you say "We" as if you knew about everyone and you assume they all sin, you talk about what you dont know, you can only speak for yourself, you do not know everyone, and if they sin or not, but God does, and God says in His word: the born again cannot sin. And I showed you the verse. Why refuse to believe the word of God? His testimony is greater than your testimony. I just believe God, man.
They dont sin nor stumble:

1 John 2:10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.

What do you do with 1 John 1:8-10?

What I do is I dont take it out of context, look at the preceding verse:

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

The verse starts talking about someone who "walks in the light", this means they have repented and dont sin anymore, and now they can be cleansed from all sin.
Now the verse you take out of context, is talking about the sins to cleanse, they have sins to cleanse, those sins they have repented from, they cant say they have no sin (to cleanse), because they do, but they repented and now can be cleansed from all sin, making them without sin. Because all means all, they just cant say they have no sin, because they cant speak of themselves, but I can speak of them, and I can say they have no sin, because they got cleansed from all sin, as Scripture testifies.

Or do you sometimes commit sin?

Not the born again, they dont. Just repent and stop, how hard can it be? It will be worth it.

So are you admitting to not being born again? Or you're going to start over again today? "If we say we have no sin....."

"If we say we have no sin.. we testify about ourselves and it is not true, not because they have sin, they dont, but because:
John 5:31 If I testify about Myself, My testimony is not valid.

So what I did was testify about them, not myself. They have no sin, because they got cleansed from all sin. Just like John testified about Jesus and said He had no sin, and it was a true testimony.
