A history that should never have been forgotten has long since been lost. It is time to refresh our memories. Black Lives Matter (BLM) does not represent the old Civil Rights Movement. It does not seek equality under the law. And it does not intend to stop until it overthrows the very idea and structure of America as we’ve known it.

The Racial Marxism of BLM

I think you're confusing the organisation with the movement. Intentionally, I would guess.

I've just watched a soccer game in the UK and the players took a knee as they have been doing for quite some time to signify that black lives matter and to highlight for some dreadful racial attacks on black players via social media recently.

Only someone with an agenda would suggest that they are supporting Marxism. I sincerely doubt that 99% of the people who would say that they support the concept of BLM would have any idea of the political leanings of any of the people who claim to run the organisation.

This came up in conversation a few weeks ago in another forum and I conducted a straw poll and asked a few people to name a political ideology associated with BLM. Everyone suggested that it would be left of centre in some way. When I suggested Marxism, all I got was a puzzled expression.

Don’t worry about, I’ve been told that it’s all just a big con to fleece well meaning lefties out of their money. Besides, they can’t be Marxists, apparently one of them bought a nice house!

What's the difference between the two?

When people are chanting slogans like Defund the Police in the streets.....how do you know if the slogan came from the organization or the movement?

How does anyone distinguish between the two in a meaningful way?

Do you not realize the organization started the movement? BLM the organization was founded, according to them, as a result of the Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri. Remember the "hands up, don't shoot" false narrative? BLM the organization started that. The "movement" has always been associated with BLM, whether it's directly related or not. You cannot say they are separate without coming across as dishonest or uninformed.

By reading about it. Talking about it. Listening about it. Discussing it. Investigating it. Being aware of it as a movement that sprung up from people's awareness that we've got a long way to go when it comes to racism. By a personal realisation that I haven't exactly been a go-to example of racial equality during my lifetime.

Your mileage may vary.

Most people - I'd say the vast amount of people, aren't aware. And even if they are, like myself, they don't consider the political position of those who started the movement to reflect the movement itself.

Surely you understand that.

Actually BLM started because of the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 16 year old Trayvon Martin

You are of course entitled to your own personal view of the matter, but the Original Post here is certainly correct about BLM being a Marxist movement.

It claimed that for itself. It's not just an assessment of the organization by outsiders.

And that's the situation even if we acknowledge that there are people who have taken to the streets, etc. and claimed the BLM name for themselves and meant "who knows what" by it.

Is this news to anyone? I must read 20 posts a day on hear with people banging on about how BLM are Marxists. The opinion piece in that op is no different, although maybe slightly longer.

It’s like flipping ground hog day.

Too, one wonders why giving something a negative label means the labeler wins? Argue the points, tenets, goals of an organization. Giving them a label (rightly or wrongly) doesn't mean you win.

You have a point there. However, in this case the organization and its
organizers and leaders gave us the description
, not someone unsympathetic to them.

All I did was post a portion of an article and use the title of the article as the title of the thread, and then posted the link for others to read the whole article.
