He died at the medical center of the medium security federal prison in Butner, NC. He was serving a 150 year sentence. Cause of death is reported as end-stage renal failure, along with other chronic medical problems.

As per the article, he defrauded 37,000 investors of $65 billion in his massive Ponzi scheme. Though to my understanding, that's the phony total value of what his victims thought they had made. The actual cash he fleeced from them is about $20 billion. Still, the man is the most egregious and contemptible scam artist of all time.

BTW: Check the photos in the link. Doesn't Bernie kinda resemble George Washington? It's so weird. Maybe that's how he got investors to trust him. But he could sure tell a lie.
