From the UK Government website:

What COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca contains

One dose (0.5 ml) contains: COVID 19 Vaccine (ChAdOx1-S* recombinant) 5 × 10^10 viral particles

*Recombinant, replication-deficient chimpanzee adenovirus vector encoding the SARS CoV 2 Spike glycoprotein. Produced in genetically modified human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells.

The reference to HEK 293 is a cell line that was derived from Human Embryonic Kidney (HEK) cells taken from an aborted baby.

Is it ethical to develop a vaccine using a cell line derived from an abortion performed in 1973?

Even if you set aside the ethics momentarily, vaccines cultured in human fetal cells have had an adverse effect on a large number of people with pre-existing conditions. These same [family lines] were not so affected by vaccines cultured in non-human cell lines (which is most of them).

A similar difference is seen between the use of embryonic & adult stem cells.

It's not ethical.

I'm wondering if there are any vaccines at all (like already existing ones for other viruses) that aren't made this way.

All the cells of that embryo no longer exist.

organ donations from a deceased individual no matter the age - take place all the time

"When a potential donor is under the age of 18, the parent or legal guardian always has to authorize the donation"

==============================

The moral question would come in if someone had said that they were deliberately going to abort their baby in 1973 so that decades of vaccines could be produced to benefit billions of people.

One could argue that if a parent in 1973 had engaged in a proposal to murder someone in order to benefit a lot of other people, -- it would not be right. But is that really what happened?

In any case - I prefer the mRNA vaccine over this kind.

Yes. That abortion was going to happen anyhow, so it is good that science has developed to where some good can come from a not-so-good procedure.
Hello Mikha'el, the scientific discoveries that were made in concentration camps by the Third Reich (with Jewish prisoners standing in as their lab rats) will never be used, even though a lot of "good" would probably come from doing so. Likewise, shouldn't the same standard be applied to anything that is in anyway related to the abortion industry (since abortion always involves the killing of the most innocent among us)?

Thanks!

To me the difference is that in most cases, the deaths in the concentration camps were being perpetrated for the purposes of scientific research. I'd imagine that the number of abortions taking place for the same reason is close to zero. I would also expect the number of abortions prevented by someone refusing such a vaccine is also zero.

When people dig in to defend the ethics, they neglect to be objectively critical of the medical results. Fetal-based vaccines don't make people autistic. They turn people who are already born with hereditary, mild autism [ASD1] into severe cases [ASD2 & ASD3].
2014-CA DDS Autism Cases By Birth Year
full

These are severe autism only; not mild cases.
This caseload did not previously exist under a different diagnosis.
Also known as Millennial Autism.
Image taken from California's Autism Crisis (older version).

The first vaccine to make such use of human fetal cells was the 1979 rubella vaccine (in the USA). Prior to that, severe autism (n.k.a. Autism Spectrum Disorder, severity levels 2 & 3) occurred at the same rate as natural-born triplets.
