At one point I was into flat earth. I absorbed everything I could about it. After the fanaticism settled down, I came to some conclusions.
- We can't say for sure whether the language of the Bible actually supports a flat earth. We can make reasonable assumptions, but that's all they are.
- While the evidence for flat earth is very compelling, we will never be able to prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt.
- The problem with flat earth is that it supersedes Christianity. While believers profess Christ, their main focus is flat earth and using scripture to back it. It becomes idolatry. Yes, flat earth brings people to God and strengthens faith, but it is the primary focus of believers, to the point of obsession.
- I see flat earth as a Trojan horse. Once a person believes, it opens up a whole can of worms of conspiracy theory centered around deception of the masses.
- Does it really matter if the earth is flat? No. Whether the earth is flat or not should not be the foundation of my Christian faith.
- Does it really matter if there is a vast conspiracy? No. Satan deceives the whole world, it's nothing new.
- Should I spend my time trying to prove one way or the other? I don't think so. We are called to bring the gospel to the world. Flat earth has no place in the gospel and it shouldn't be used as a means to convert people to Christianity.
