Over the Easter week, I was doing some clearing up around my home and came across the order of service book for my Confirmation some years back.
In the order of service for confirmation, the promises undertaken by the candidate are similar to those made during baptism.
- The first promise is to reject the devil and all rebellion against God.
- The second is to renounce the deceit and corruption of evil.
- The third is to repent of our sins that separate us from God and neighbour.
- The fourth is to turn to Christ as Saviour.
- The fifth is to submit to Christ as Lord.
- And finally the sixth is to come to Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life.
At confirmation we are required to reaffirm the promises made at our baptism. We are called to "fight valiantly as a disciple of Christ, against sin, the world and the devil, and remain faithful to Christ to the end of our life".

The prerequisite to true repentance and faith in Jesus Christ is to reject the devil and all evil.

Jesus said “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me. Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies".

Jesus also said "My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one".

Jesus also taught us the Lord's prayer, the model for all our prayers, in which he stated "And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one".

Jesus clearly believed the devil was very real and is still very much active in this world. The wiles of the devil are not merely a past threat, but a very present one. Satan has been defeated by Jesus's death on the cross, and as previously posted, He is now bound and faces complete and utter ruin and destruction. Yet we are still called to resist him (James 4:7) and he will flee from us.

How do we resist the devil?
By standing firm to the promises of scripture. Jesus said "The tempter came to Him and said, “If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” But Jesus answered man shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
By making the sign of the cross. Christians have been doing this during services and prayers throughout the entire history of Christianity. "By the sign of the cross, all magic is stayed, all sorcery confounded, all the idols are abandoned and deserted, and all senseless pleasure ceases, as the eye of faith looks up from Earth to heaven.” There is nothing superficial or even "unbiblical" about making the sign of the cross. The cross is power. It is victory. Human beings may feel intimated and uncomfortable by such a gesture, but the sign of the cross is far more intimating for the devil who trembles at the sheer sight of it. To him it signifies defeat and total condemnation. It is to him his utter ruin and destruction.
By fleeing the enemy and striving to put God and our neighbour first. Love covers a multitude of sins. Love is the fulflillment of the law.
Know that God offers you His complete and total forgiveness. Forgive others. Forgive yourself. Be free from the chains of anger, resentment, pride and selfishness. Treat others how you yourself would wish to be treated. Show humility, kindness, respect to all people, including your enemies.

Hello Carl,

Thank you for your correction about the 'lust'

James 1:14 : But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.

So even after being beguiled by Satan - Was eve drawn away by her own her desire or is this scripture incorrect?

Revelation 20: 10 These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone." Revelation 20:10 "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

I personally believe this has done happened, Carl.

It is however subjective and you do not have to believe my point of view.

I actually had encounters with demons as a believer so I am not buying that the devil is cast into the lake of fire yet. Also, none of the horrible things we read about in Revelation have happened yet, either. If they did, no human in history would ever forget it (like 1/4th of the Earth being killed and demons coming out of the ground, etc). Besides, the stuff in Revelation leads up to the return of Jesus Christ and setting up His 1,000 year reign (Just read Revelation 20 more closely again).

Have heard 1000 is a significant reminder of ownership. Christ does reign forever already.

Anyway biblehighlighter, some guy named Josephus wrote about seeing chariots in the sky on fire, a long time ago, haven’t check out myself but this guy wasn’t even Christian it is interesting to say the least.

Personally haven't done an in-depth study of Revelation.

Though personally believe that the events in it are done.

Maybe one day can articulate it properly for it is one of the most profound and controversial books on the market we have today.

There are 4 different view points on it. Idealist, Historical, Pertrist View, and mmm Forgot the other one, Futurist view

Believe personally all of it done and Satan has been cast into the lake of fire, though people can have their own ideas, when it comes down to it.

Hopefully one will be able to understand it though believe it is already done.

People today when they accept Jesus Christ into their life have entered into the Kingdom of God - the kingdom of the Son ( Colossians 1:13 - 14)

And the person is delivered out from Darkness by God, it doesn't say released from Satan or delivered out of Satan kingdom.

So it is all up for interpretation. (When it comes to revelation)

Have heard 1000 is a significant reminder of ownership. Christ does reign forever already.

Here is a snippet from my End Times Chronology:

After the Second Coming of Jesus Christ...

The Earth is Purified by Fire & Satan is Bound:

The Earth is A Dark & Desolate Wasteland:

Jeremiah 4:23 ERV, Jeremiah 4:24 AMP, Jeremiah 4:25 ERV,
.. Jeremiah 4:26a ISV, Jeremiah 4:26b WEB, Jeremiah 4:27 GWT

I looked at the earth. It was empty; there was nothing on it. I looked at the sky, and its light was gone. I looked at the mountains, and... they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly to and fro. I looked, but there were no people. All the birds of the sky had flown away. I looked, and the fruitful land had become a desert. All its cities were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger. This is what the LORD says: The whole earth will be ruined, although I will not destroy it completely.

The Earth is Purified by Fire

(Conclusion of the Day of the Lord):

(All Things Upon the Earth Are Destroyed By Fire):
(And the Polluted Atmosphere Passes Away With a Great Noise):

2 Peter 3:10-12

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. ...all these things shall be dissolved, .... wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat."

Satan is Bound in the Bottomless Pit:

Revelation 20:1-3

"And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled..."

The Millennium:
(The 1,000 Year Reign of Christ)
(The 1st New Heavens and New Earth)

The Earth is Re-Created or Re-Formed Out of This Current Earth:

Isaiah 65:17

"For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind."

The First Phase of the Resurrection of the Saints:

John 5:29 GNV

"And they shall come forth, that have done good, unto the resurrection of life:"
Acts 24:15 DRA

"Having hope in God, ... that there shall be a resurrection of the just..."

Daniel 12:2

"And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, ... to everlasting life,"

Revelation 20:6 a

"Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, ..."

Isaiah 65:18 KJ2

"But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy."

Abraham, Select Patriachs, and the Martyred Tribulation Saints will Live and Reign with Christ for 1,000 Years:

Revelation 20:4

And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Revelation 20:6 b

"...they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years."

A Description of What the Millennium Will Be Like:

Isaiah 65:19-21 NLT, Isaiah 65:22 NET, Isaiah 65:23 EXB, Isaiah 65:24, Isaiah 65:25 ESV

"I will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in my people. And the sound of weeping and crying will be heard in it no more.

No longer will babies die when only a few days old. No longer will adults die before they have lived a full life. No longer will people be considered old at one hundred! Only the cursed will die that young!

In those days people will live in the houses they build and eat the fruit of their own vineyards.

No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, for my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced.

They will never again work for nothing [ not labor in vain ]. They will never again give birth to children who die young. All my people will be blessed by the Lord; they and their children will be blessed.

And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

The wolf and the lamb shall graze together; the lion shall eat straw like the ox, and dust shall be the serpent’s food. They shall not hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain,” says the LORD."

Satan is Loosed Out of the Bottomless Pit and He Deceives the Nations:

Revelation 20:7-8

"And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth,"

Revelation 20:3 b

"...till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season."

The Final or Last Battle:

Revelation 20:8-9

"Gog, and Magog, ... gather ... together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them."

It sounds like you are talking about Elijah (See: 2 Kings 2). If so, that is actually in the Old Testament Scriptures, and no; He was not taken up into God's Kingdom, but he was taken up into the second Heaven (i.e. the atmosphere) and relocated an another part of the Earth. This is a parallel with the story of Philip and the Ethiopian Enuch. The Ethopian Enuch was riding in a chariot and Philip told him the good news from the Enuch reading from a scroll in Isaiah. Later, Philip was transported to a different locaton by the Spirit.

No thank you biblehighlter.

Information is not your enemy, brother. I post primarily Scripture verses for my chronology.
For the basis of my chronology is based on Scripture.
But you are free to believe as you wish and study on your own such things.

You said:
You ever heard of Josephus before?

Yes, and while he did say some true things (I am sure), he does not determine what is true in regards to our faith or what is true in the Holy Bible.

Christians are supposed to follow the Holy Bible and not Josephus, or other holy men. A believer's ultimate guide is God's Word and the Holy Spirit, and not men.

Also, you did not address my my point about my encounters with demons as a believer. I am not the only believer to say this, either. Do you think all of us believers are lying or are we being deceived? If so, how? Is there a rational explanation? You also said you did not really do an indepth study Revelation. If so, then how can you be sure you got it right in regards to Eschatology? Revelation is a big part of a believer's understanding on the End Times.

I believe Preterism is a big error and it simply is not what the Bible even remotely teaches, and I have studied Revelation and the Olivet Discourse extensively before (along with continual prayer). Granted, I am not saying that my projection of the End Times is 100% accurate in everything, but I do know that Jesus will return one day, and I do know that the Millennium is clearly something that is yet future. None of the horrible things in Revelation have happened yet.

yes I agree I never read about him either but if we never used external evidences to validate scriptures too we wouldn’t even probably have Josephus writings that confirmed things in revelation I get it,

All things should be tested whether or not they stand and we ultimately always stand on the life, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus.

I just would rather encourage the brethren to read more the Bible instead of other holy men. The Bible is where we get the faith (Romans 10:17). I believe we should have a more solid grasp of the Word before we venture out and read what others say. For me: I am happy enough with God's Word. For me: It is enough.

I don’t believe people are demon possessed anymore, not like they where when Jesus Christ was around there are many that claim that they are still demon possessed people out there but I don’t believe it.

Those days are over and done with, there are mentally ill people, people with disabilities, people with physical aliments, and if you are a person to take the scriptures literally why can’t we heal these people back like then? Is my question Bible highlighter.

Where able to cast the demons out of them?

I cast out a demon in the Lord's name. I had other encounters with demons and I was not having any mental problems. So no. It is insane to claim that the devil is not operating today and by his minions. That is exactly what the devil wants you to believe. He either wants men to ignore his existence altogether or to get you to deny he is not around anymore. Same thing. That's a serious problem. For verses like Ephesians 6 about the amor of God must not be applicable to you. For the whole purpose of putting on the armor of God is to stand against the devil's schemes. If there is no devil around, then there are no deceptions of the devil that you need to be worried about (and thus you can easily fall prety to his many deceptions). But you have to believe the enemy is still around deceiving others in order to see the deceptions.

I tend to hold the preterist view myself. That a lot of Revelation is about the destruction of Jerusalem that took place in 70 AD.

Except the inconvenient fact that Revelation was written in 90 AD, after the destruction of Jerusalem.

Josephus wasnt a believer

Yes, I have known that for a very long time. So why are you reading up on a Jewish guy when believers today are no longer a part of the Jewish religion? Granted, I am not saying that you cannot do so, it just does not seem as beneficial to me as a believer in the best use of my time when I can spend more time reading the Bible instead.

I wouldn't go by Josephus when it comes to Revelation. Remember, as you said, he was not a believer. Just read the Scriptures and let God talk to you and ask Him what His Word is really saying. For me: It does not sound like you are reading and believing Revelation 20 in regards to the 1,000 year reign of Christ. We clearly are not in the Millennium time period yet because Christ is not actually physically reigning in any country here on the Earth yet. Also, read Isaiah 65:17-25. It gives you a decription of the Millennium. Based on that description: We are not in that time period yet.

I believe God probably just took Elijah from his timeline, and Transported him directly to the timeline during the tribulation, to be one of the two witnesses.

I believe God probably just took Elijah from his timeline, and Transported him directly to the timeline during the tribulation, to be one of the two witnesses.

I believe Elijah was merely taken elsewhere on Earth in his time.

How so? Well, Elijah's last recorded and dated act occurred during the reign of the Israelite king Ahaziah when Elijah told the king he would die for his sins (2 Kings 1:3-17). Ahaziah's reign lasted only about a year, ca. 850 B.C.; So obviously he still lived during his own time.
