• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I think many have forgotten what TRUE TEMPERANCE really means. Back in the 1800's when they signed the "Temperance Pledge", they were signing, not that they would drink in moderation, but that they wouldn't drink at all. TRUE TEMPERANCE means using the things that are healthy IN MODERATION and not using the things that are unhealthy AT ALL :).

Join us after the service in the annex for Ladies Aid refreshments: finger-food; coffee and doughnuts.

JS: Once I brought some of my low sugar food to a retreat so my daughter and I, both gluten intolerant, could have something to eat. The food was gone before we got anything to eat. After that it was healthy food and it almost always gets eaten, though people still eat the high sugar stuff.

The long suffering of God....
120 years was the time it took Noah to complete the ark. I don't think the passage speaks of mans entire lifespan, rather how many years until the flood was to come.

1Pe 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Noah preached righteousness the whole time he was building, but only saved eight.
2 Pet 2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

This is true, 120 years until the flood.

The latest mention of lifespan mirrors today's life expectancy.

Psalm 90:9-10
King James Version

9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Seventh Day Adventists are mainly vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian or may eat some meat. The 104 year old surgeon was a vegan. He did not smoke drink alcohol, caffeine or smoke. Dr. Ellsworth Wareham retired from surgery at 95. He was driving a car and mowing his grass when he was 100. This is an interview of him when he was 98.

Mormons are pretty healthy as well.

Cholesterol only comes from meat/dairy products, and is what causes many to have heart attacks...it's very rare for a vegan to have a heart attack but rather common for meat eaters to have them.

The main thing is to be healthy for however long you are alive...and a vegan lifestyle is just healthier, all the way around.

Your body produces 80 percent of your cholesterol. Animal foods only contribute about 20 percent. Cholesterol medications (statins) reduce the amount of cholesterol produced by your liver. Your body needs lots of cholesterol, and the jury is still out on some of the research.

Seventh Day Adventists living in Loma Linda, CA live ten years longer than others. Dan Buettner wrote about them and other communities with higher than average numbers of centenarians in his book, “The Blue Zones Solution.” Many Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) are vegan, vegetarian, or ate plant based with small amounts of fish, meat and dairy.

To the OP. Why aren't Christians healthier? This old joke might reveal the reason.

The fire and brimstone pastor of a small southern church launched into a sermon about the sins of the flesh with particular attention to that of alcohol. When he singled out for condemnation the long cherished local custom of moonshining one old congregant was heard to mutter, "He's quit preachin' and gone to meddlin'."

Sad but true, OldWiseGuy.... Most preachers preach what the people WANT to hear....and people don't want to hear about what they shouldn't be or should be eating and drinking....so very little is said on that topic.

I don't think most pastors are well schooled in health. However they can offer biblical advice on the subject. Health is so important that it should be a part of the edification of the church (as is practiced by SDA's and Mormons).
