• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I believe if you visit most any church, you will find that there is nearly as much sickness in the Church as there is in the World. Why is that? Shouldn't Christians be the healthiest people on the planet??? Yes! They should be! But sadly, most of them have fallen for the teaching that it doesn't matter what they eat as long as they pray over it....because somehow their prayer changes UNHEALTHY FOOD into HEALTHY FOOD. Well, that just isn't true....and because most Christians eat just like the World eats, they have the same diseases those living in the World have.

If the Church you attend doesn't educate people on what to eat/what not to eat, perhaps it's time to find a new Church. After all, God said, "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth." 3 John 1:2.

Absolutely. Over indulgence is a sin and yet obesity has become normalised, overlooked and ignored.
Couldn't agree with you more! Most of the food served at the Church dinners and pot lucks are very unhealthy....
Yet sadly, few Christians are willing to change their ways....

I am not certain that it is the responsibility of the church to teach proper diet, but I agree that it would help some people.

The Torah outlines what Yah's people may eat.

Then in the Book of Daniel we find this:

(CLV) Dn 1:12
I pray, try out your servants for ten days. Let them give us of the seed-foods of the land that we may eat, and water that we may drink.

(CLV) Dn 1:13
Let our appearance be seen before you, and the appearance of the boys who are eating the king's dainties. According to what you shall see, do with your servants.

(CLV) Dn 1:14
Now he hearkened to them in this matter and tried them out for ten days.

(CLV) Dn 1:15
And fat the end of the ten days their appearance was seen to be better and plumper in flesh than any of the boys who were eating the king's dainties.

My denomination has had a health ministry since the 1800's and developed the meat substitutes that you see today. I grew up on the stuff. But really, meat substitutes are a means to wean you off of meat.

The Bible tells us that our body is the temple of God and we should keep it holy. Not only should your body be spiritually holy, but also physically holy. All churches should have a health ministry, but the American diet takes precedence. People scoff at vegetarianism and veganism, which should be telling; that in the last days there would be scoffers, going after their own lusts. Diet is a part of the complete picture of Christianity, but many don't recognize it.

Some Christians do not smoke or drink alcohol. They are not obese. This is a healthier lifestyle.

There is a group of Seventh Day Adventists in Loma Linda who live longer than most people. A Seventh Day Adventist doctor lived to be 104. He was assisting with surgery in his 90’s and driving a car at 100. Most of them eat a mainly plant based diet.

Surely there are meat eaters that lived long, healthy lives?

Meat, after all, was a large part of what was clean to eat, and God cared about his chosen people, and their health/diet.

Before the FLOOD people were living to almost 1000 years old....and no one had been given permission to eat meat yet. It wasn't until after the FLOOD that man was given permission to eat CLEAN MEATS....and within 10 Generations, the human lifespan dropped down to 150 years! That is what meat protein does...causes one to come to sexual maturity sooner, reproduce sooner, age faster and die sooner.

Back in the 1800's girls didn't have their first period til they were near 18 years old. Today, they are between 8-10 many times.

I was born and raised in the SDA Church, Freth :). But when I found out that the Church as an organization is not Pro-Life, well, that was the end for me. I'm still very much an old-fashioned SDA at heart....but I'd never belong to any organization that takes a Pro-Choice stand, let alone a Church.

All things in moderation...food, drink, sleep, exercise and olive oil.

To be honest, I know many health food Czars, and exercise fanatics who are losing, or, have lost the battle against cancer.

All things in moderation, as the good book say's.

Understandable. I don't agree with everything the church does either.

And it's not just about meat....I believe large amounts of sugar are as almost as unhealthy as meat is.

That verse can be taken out of context, "all things in moderation." We should use MODERATELY the things that are good for us, and the things that are not good for us, we shouldn't use at all. I think you would agree that it isn't good for Christians to smoke moderately or to do drugs moderately?

I agree, but even that isn't a guarantee that you won't get diseases like cancer. Well, nothing is a guarantee, but... I think your chances get better for a longer life if you eat better. Some exercise is better than no exercise. Taking anything to extremes (health-wise) is allowing it to become a thing of worship in your life, an idol, and most likely detrimental for health.

Or could that reduction of life span have something to do with the following?

Genesis 6:3
3 And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

Seems to me, that would be the most likely cause, and the meat had nothing to do with it.

I don't think so, Kenny :). It took time...10 Generations for that to happen. Farmers know that today, that is why they give their chickens a high protein diet, so that it will produce eggs faster, and they get their $ out of them faster.

Every life owes a death you can live as healthy as you want, but you will die at some point. Personally, with my cerebral palsy and health problems that come with it I am giving myself until 60 will be half way there August 8th of this year. The Bible and science both say that people will live a max of roughly 120.

God said he would reduce the lifespan, and it makes perfect sense to me, he would do that over time.

As mentioned...moderation is the key. As I understand it, both Vegans, and health conscious meat eaters live about the same number of years.

Yes, we will all die at some point, for sure :). But if we follow the Health Laws as given to us in the Bible, our time on this earth will be much healthier and happier.
